Changing the Menu Icons?

270 replies · 45,527 views · Started 26 March 2003

That's great. After I offered myself to translate a lot of people did the same. So far so goos, but the "smart" brazilian also wanted to translate to "portuguese". Everybody knows that brazilians talk their own Portuguese, so J2K, choose who you want, if you're going to choose some.

But remember that pshyco isn't Portuguese...

I've received quite a lot of PM's - I apologise that I have not had time to respond yet, but I will soon enough 😉

so when do we get to change our icons finally ? are u plannin on a full version j2k ? i cant wait to change em ... is extended menu out as yet . im lost on this topic plz update thk u

Patience is the key! 😊

It's harder than I thought, but it's still getting there. I'm trying to reduce the file sizes, as so far each icon pack will be around 500kb ish when installed on the phone - not bad for 3650 users on the MMC but it is quite a chunk of memory for the 7650.

Cheers

P.S. Translators will be contacted this weekend.

cheers, J2k! I mean, 500kb compressed with stakker will be around 200-300kb - thats quite a chunk, but if theres no other way.... give us that killer-app!!! 😃

cheers, franco

PS: if you need a translation in german, please contact me via PN

You can't compress an application in use, can you?
You can't compress an application in use, can you?
😮ops: youre probably right - to use that app you have to run it all the time or maybe even to put it into an autostart-applikation...
so j2k, please keep on working .... 😉

Icon Changer does not install an application that is always running on your phone. 😉 So theoretically Stacker/Space Doubler should be able to compress it.

Cheers

So your app could be removed, leaving just the pack of icons?

Or is it too much to ask to be able to configure a "personalised", hence limited pack on the PC?

Paul

There's some confusion going on -- Icon Changer itself is a PC (Windows) program, NOT Symbian. All that is installed on the Symbian phone are the actual icons themselves and a little executable that you need not worry about as it does not change, this simply makes the C: (or E😊 files route through the Z:.

So yes you CAN make your own icon packs, that's the whole point of it!

???

well, IMHO I thought that the only apps that could be installed on series60 were symbian-based ones (*.sis) or midp1.0-based ones (*.jar).

so, if the icons are no sis-files they have to be jars and would all (?) appear under "programs" ???

The "small executable" is a .app which Symbian detects OK 😊

am i right in believing that the beta testing hasnt gone on yet or have i just been forgotten about?

Beta testing has not yet begun, I told you earlier in the thread that your name is on the list and you will receive the beta when it is ready.

Guys can we just wait till it arrives!!!! 😃

Let j2k get on with writing it, let it beta and the sooner you'll see it to see what it can do.

Sorry to be brash but Ive seen so many projects die because of drawn out question and answer sessions.

HEY !!!! Did you think that this "little application" could become a "killer app" because with it now you can change almost EVERYTHING on the phone? by "routing" filesystem to check on C: or E: instead than on Z: you can now do everything! Assuming we are able to find WHERE informations are stored 😉 we will be able to customize everything, even to create new color palettes, change the applications names, modify operator names, and whatever could come to our minds 8)

or perhaps I am totally wrong?

You're right 😉 If you check the thread in the 3650 forum, about changing menu structure, you'll see I have another project in the pipeline which uses this "mechanism" 😉

Wow! putting faquick and j2k brains to manipulate the phone is cool 8)

Both of you are COOL
