The N-Gage family's latest member: the Nokia N82

Published by at

Nokia today unveiled its latest N-Gage-compatible device, the Nokia N82 smartphone. The N82 is designed to be the best cameraphone in the world, featuring a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, a television-quality (VGA 30fps) camcorder, fast shutter speed for quick snaps, and a real Xenon flash. From a gaming perspective, it will be compatible with the Next Gen N-Gage platform, and contains a 3D graphics acceleration chip as well as a TV Out capability.

Like all Next Gen N-Gage devices it's a Symbian S60 3rd Edition phone, so it's compatible with S60 3rd Edition software and games, as well as N-Gage games.

Like a few previous S60 models, the N82 contains an accelerometer which will (iPhone-style) automatically adjust the screen to the way you're holding the phone. This could possibly be used in games too, so that it would put games into landscape mode when you hold it horizontally, and portrait mode when you hold it vertically.

Another feature worth noting is the built-in GPS receiver, which uses the Nokia Maps service, or can be used with a third party navigation application if you prefer.
