We here at All About N-Gage also had some personal favourites of 2008, here are a few words about them:

Steve Litchfield: "Pro Series Golf - the simulation itself is good, but not outstanding - but being able to play against a friend
over the Internet in real time is just superb and addictive!"

Rafe Blandford: "I find it almost impossible to pick out one game as my favourite... My game playing tends to be divided between short bursts (filling a spare 5 minutes) and, more rarely, longer gaming sessions (on a flight or longer train journey). Different games are suited to these to a greater or lesser extent."

"Mile High Pinball is a great game, but works best, in my opinion, when played in longer gaming sessions. It also get points for its easy control mechanism and portrait orientation which make it better suited to the design constraints of the typical N-Gage compatible mobile phone."

"Pro Series Golf stands out as providing an excellent online multi-player experience, provided you can find a suitable opponent
(pre-arranged games with friends seem to be the only viable solution). Reset Generation deserves plaudits for managing to solve this online player match up problem successfully."

"With all that said Creatures of the Deep, one of the first N-Gage games released, remains a stand out for me. It can be played in short or long sessions, has real depth and is excellent value for money (I'm still no where near finishing it, despite having played it more than any other N-Gage game)."

Ewan Spence: "Rather than go for the obvious game, I want to highlight Cafe Solitaire. It's not the flashiest game on the N-Gage platform, and neither is it one of the big name third party titles or a first party title that has been lovingly crafted by Nokia. But I think Café Solitaire is a sign of how the N-Gage platform can work for Nokia, for users, and for developers."

"Café Solitaire is just one of many Java based titles from D-Choc, and by using the N-Gage platform to deliver the title, D-Choc could take advantage of the N-gage infrastructure, billing and distribution. Yes they had to recode to allow the game to let players score Arena Points through the game, but I doubt this would be a huge effort."

"Nokia of course had another title to sell through, and solitaire card games are good consistent selling titles, they might not reach the top of the charts but they'll hang around for a long time. It also, presumably, wasn't a huge development cost or advance from Finland as the title was already in existence."

"Finally the N-Gage users got a new game, and there's been relatively few of them since the next gen platform went public over a year ago. Solitaire was nice, quick, great for on the go gaming, and well received."

"Nokia can't stock N-Gage with first-party titles, it would be horribly expensive. Neither can they continuously on publishing deals with EA and Gameloft to fill the store up – from a business point of view there must be an advance payment involved and the bank is not infinite. Using existing games, and having the developers tweak the code to make them N-Gage suitable is the most cost-efficient way to get a strong games catalogue in 2009. And that's why I think that Café Solitaire can be regarded as one of the key games from 2008."

Tzer2: "As always with these kinds of polls it's very difficult to come up with just one game. If sheer originality and suitability for phone gaming is most important, maybe Reset Generation is the one to pick as it's horribly addictive (you can play the full game through your PC browser on AAN's Reset Gen game page) and has had a vast amount of care and attention lavished on it by Nokia and RedLynx. They built this for N-Gage from the ground up, and it really shows off what the platform can do."

"However, for some reason I personally find Creatures of the Deep to be a more relaxing game, it lets you play entirely at your own pace and has a laid-back ambience as befits a game about angling. If you're heavily into it there are lots of hidden treasures, tournaments and unlockables to explore, but if you just fancy a quick go now and then that also works within the game mechanics. The graphics are gorgeous, and for once this isn't a game about violence or fast-moving action, but just taking a break in relaxing places that exist in the real world."

"I'd also like to give honourable mentions to Bounce Boing Voyage (which plays well, looks great and has charming music), and System Rush Evolution (which pushes the current N-Gage platform's graphics to the limit without sacrificing frame rate, something Ideaworks3D are very good at)."

"Dirk Dagger would possibly have been my game of the year if they'd included something resembling gameplay, instead of holding the player's hand all the time. The same formula but with more puzzles and things to explore would be much appreciated in the sequel (which rumour has it will be called The Platinum Pistol...)."
