4 In A Line for Symbian OS

Krisse has been looking at yet another very solid ZingMagic conversion of a classic game to Symbian OS. In this case, 4 In A Line for all S60 and UIQ-powered smartphones of all vintages. You won't buy this for the soundtrack or graphics, but you can't beat the classic gameplay. It's also probably great for children for long car journeys 8-)

Incoming: Meteor for all Symbian OS platforms

I reviewed Meteor almost three years ago but Krisse, in the run up to the next-gen N-Gage launch in 2007 2009 2008, has been revisiting many Symbian OS classics and here reviews Meteor again in QVGA form on a modern S60 3rd Edition device. Has the game changed in the intervening years - does Meteor still hold up? It's available for all versions of S60 and UIQ, plus Series 80, by the way.

Yahoo! Go! 3.0!

Yup, it's out. A whole new version of the free Yahoo! Go! on-device portal. Version 2 was actually pretty handy, including mapping and routing and support for built-in GPS. Version 3.0 claims better email handling, more news, satellite maps, live traffic. Sounds a bit like Google's portfolio, except that here it's all in the one Java application. Worth a try? Type get.go.yahoo.com into your smartphone's browser.

Symbian help - by email

Craig Loxton, the guy who guested in the latest Smartphones Show, has been busy - he's set up a Symbian Help group on Google Groups , presumably intending to run it much like the old, beloved EPOC Digest back in Psion days. It'll cover S60 and UIQ matters and is open to all.

Just in case you didn't get emailed by Epocware, this is a short note to mention that everything (S60 all versions, UIQ all versions, Series 80, etc.) on their site is half price until Christmas Day. For anyone that's been wanting to buy Handy Calendar or Handy Safe, in particular, this is a great money-saver.

The Friday Gaming Double Bill

In the last Friday gaming spot before N-Gage launches (well, that's the theory anyway), I bring you Attila's review of Stolen in 60 Seconds, plus Krisse's review of Quartz 2, both top notch games with wide Symbian OS device compatibility. Have fun with them and let's hope we have even bigger fish to fry come next Friday and Christmas!
