Projekt hits S60 3rd Edition

Projekt, already available for every other Symbian-based interface, has finally hit S60 3rd Edition, with a full spread of compatibility. One of the most mature third party applications in the Symbian OS world, Projekt is an outliner at heart, but with links, notes, import and export options, it can be used to manage projects too.

Sony Ericsson P1 Prototype Previews Ahoy!

Two previews of the Sony Ericsson P1 based on the prototypes have appeared on the internet, on my-symbian.com and on mobile-review.com. Bear in mind the production model P1 which actually gets to the shops may be significantly different to the prototype. The estimated release date is August 2007.

Developer tutorial series continues

Simon Judge's excellent series of developer tutorial at Sony Ericsson Developer world continues with part 5, releasing an application , covering how to customise the installation of an application and how to publish signed and unsigned application. Previous parts include the UIQ platform, UIQ tools and SDK setup, application integrity and security and working with code.

10 things a smartphone can do (that the iPhone can't)

Smartphones Show 33, now live and on YouTube, has a hands-on review of the WinMob-powered HTC S710, plus a video feature looking at ten things current smartphones can do that the otherwise cool Apple iPhone can't. The ten are demo-ed on current S60 3rd Edition hardware, but many also apply to other Symbian OS-powered devices.

Review - AquaCalendar for UIQ 3

Although available for most other Symbian OS platforms, AquaCalendar for UIQ 3 is reviewed here by P990 devotee and guest writer Asri al-Baker. Summary: plenty of eye candy and functionality, Asri reckons it makes PIM more fun!

Call made from Mount Everest on Motorola Z8

The BBC reports that the British climber Rod Baber has successfully made a mobile phone call from the top of Mount Everest. It's of particular interest to All About Symbian as the model used was a Motorola Z8, the brand new Symbian UIQ3 smartphone. You can find out more at Motorola's special Everest mini-site.

Alternative file management in UIQ 3

Guest writer Asri al-Baker is a huge fan of LCG's X-plore file manager for UIQ 3 smartphones such as the Sony Ericsson P990i. Disregarding the non-standard interface and a few small niggles, he's been using the review format to show off what X-plore can do.

A Dictionary for Every Pocket?

Ewan reviews the Merriam-Webster range of Dictionaries for Symbian OS smartphones, trying them out in detail on the Nokia E61i. See the review for links to UIQ versions. Summary? Slickly programmed and competent, they do what they say on the tin.
