L'aeroport, c'est dans quel sens?

Here's something useful for your summer travels and completely free. CoolGorilla have created a freeware talking phrasebook, available in half a dozen languages. It runs under Java, so should work with the majority of S60 and UIQ smartphones. Just pick the model in their list that's closest to what you have. It worked fine on my E90 8-) (Via MobHappy

GMail, standalone, on any phone

Using GMail in a web browser has always been a bit clumsy. Ewan's taken a shine to Google's dedicated Java-based GMail client on his Nokia N95. OK, so Java's slow to load and clumsy, but Google's mini app is well designed and has some lovely touches.

Opera Mini 4 Beta now available

The beta of Opera Mini 4 is now available from the Opera website. The new version renders a full page overview from which you can then zoom in to read the page (very reminiscent of S60's browser overview / minimap mode). Other new features include the introduction of a mouse and power scrolling making it easier to move around pages and a quick access context menu. Read on for more and screenshots.

Projekt, the only genuine 'outliner' for Symbian OS, recently hit S60 3rd Edition. Now that it's available for both current Symbian-based platforms, Asri al-Baker reviews the UIQ 3 version of Projekt and shows how it can be used for everything from project management to shopping lists... emoze 1.4 - better, faster, more efficient

emoze, the popular and free push email and Calendar service for S60 and UIQ smartphones, has been given a major update to v1.4, with much increased efficiency top of the list of improvements, meaning a smaller hit on battery life. Here's the press release and here's the download page.

FM...In which I review the Proporta Wireless FM Stereo Transmitter, to let you play your smartphone's music tracks over your car radio. It's built down to a price and isn't unique in the gadget world, but it's small, stylish, works quite well and is unbeatable value.

Ah, those endearingly crazy Russians, eschewing good English and web page design in favour of sheer, unadulterated detail. Mobile Review has produced a long and exhaustive look at the new MOTORiZR Z8 smartphone, running a version of UIQ 3 on Symbian OS.

DreamConnect 3 wins AAS MegaApp award

Asri al-Baker has been a heavy user of DreamConnect for his UIQ smartphones for some time. With the advent of the new version 3, on his UIQ 3 device, the Sony Ericsson P990i, he decided the application was long overdue a review - Asri picks out highlights and a few minor frustrations, but nothing major enough to stop DreamConnect 3 winning a coveted MegaApp award.

Another year, another Show

Symbian has announced their 2007 Smartphone Show, at the usual ExceL centre, on Oct 16/17th, along with a new web site for the event. All About Symbian will be there in force, of course, with an extra gathering, details to be announced.
