I've finally got my phone upgraded to R2F after months of humming and hawing about sending it away!
The place was Yendell Communications in Station Road, Addlestone, Surrey. The upgrade was free and it only took 15 minutes 😃
To those who, like me, were trying to find somewhere local to upgrade in the South West of England all I can suggest is that you try some of the independent shops.
This had never occurred to me before; it was only a helpful assistant in a Vodafone store who pointed me in their direction!
Anyone has a clue on where to update P800 firmware in Belgium ?
Thx a bunch
Mine is R2F too and has no CDA number too ? What does CDA mean ? Does it affect phone performance/functions ?
I got pre-war software if I read it correctly 😞
Phone
CXC162002 R1D
Blue
CXC12529 R2C
Organiser
CXC162001 R1G05
Cda
CDA162002/20 R2A01
Have no clue where I can update this firmware, calling the shop where I bought it result in ZILCH, NADA, RIENTE 😞
Already the HBH-30 delivered with it didn't work from starters (had the phone for 2 days!!) (after 10 dayz still waiting for it to be "repaired!" and come back) you gotta be kidding!!
Already when bought, the language inthere was ENGLISH and ONLY ENGLISH, after a Master Reset, top icons changed places.. really think the people of this shop had a "test-run" with it .. and I got a second hand 'new P800' .... really pisses me off.
I've been a Nokia User for years, my first sony-ericsson (probably my last!) but really customerservice in Belgium SUX!
Still no clue where to update the phone without loosing it for 10 or 15 days !
The CDA is to to with the custom setup of your phone, so isnt affected by firmware version.
Belgico, sorry to hear about your experience! Its a shame its been so bad for you, ive had sony ericsson for ages and have found everthing supierior to my nokia experiences.
yes i updated my firmware on sunday at car phone warehouse bristol foc now on r2f what are the differences between this new firnware and r2d what i used to be on please
Found the place to be for Belgium, updated firmware to :
CXC162002 R2F
CXC12529 R5A
CXC162001 R2D02
XDA162001/3 R5A02
For Belgian forum users , a great shop, only took 40 minutes :
ARC
Leuvense Stw 52
B-1932 St-Stevens Woluwe
+32 2 712 20 00
Also when I explained my problems with the HBH-30 that I never had the oppurtunity to try out (read msg above), they said it should have been replaced within 2 or 3 days. Well I contacted Sony Ericsson Support by phone, who was going to look into it, (that was the day I brought the HBH-30 in), and since then I never had any follow up anymore. Even today 21/10/2003, the shop didn't have it returned yet (gone since 30/9/2003) , P800 bought 23/03/2003....
I am under the impression that the only thing left to do is contact my lawyer and hope something get's moving ... all suggestions welcome , for instance, what's general headquarters address for Sony Ericsson so I can write a formel email/letter already ?
Thx for the help
Belgico
Having only recently bought a secondhand P800 with its original firmware on it, I got my phone flashed (R2F) in Southampton yesterday and cannot believe the dfference in its operation.
Apart from the additional camera and picture functions, it seems quicker, almost like a new phone. Also the power seems to last a lot longer. And it was free!!! Apparently I was told that it is under warranty until week 48 and mine was in week 43 so lucky me.
For anyone thinking of getting this done, especially if they have had the phone for over six months, get down there now. Well worth the effort.
I've seen some sites offer upgrade firmware through the internet anyone tried that? I believe u need a differend connection cable to do that!
You can call 24 hours in advance, cough up 20 Euros and leave your little darling overnight at an independent dealer on the Bayerstrasse....or you can walk 5 minutes further to the Vodafone Outlet at the Hauptbahnhof and get it done in a couple of hours for nowt.😊
Hi everyone,
Although I bought my P800 when it was first available, I haven't taken the time to upgrade the firmware until today. Was easy and painfree (although time will tell?), was done in less than 2.5 hours here in Madrid, Spain for free at:
Vox Populi
calle Guzman el Bueno, 43
Madrid
I am now running on:
Telephone: CXC162002 R2F
Bluetooth: CXC12529 R5A
Organizer: CXC162001 R2D02
CDA: CDA162001/4 R5A02
When I first bought the phone it was in the default English language and I like it like that - they have given my phone upgraded but in Spanish. That's fine, but since I'm used to it in English I went to the Global Support area on the Sony Ericsson website and unless I'm really blind, COULD NOT SEE a language pack for organizer version R2D!!! Anyone notice this??
Regards,
Lonnie
UPDATE: my apologies, playing around with the configuration with my newly upgraded phone (in Spanish), I went to the language configuration and noticed that apart from the default Spanish that it also had UK English as an option - great! No loading language packs... a quick reboot and I'm back into English mode.
Now more playing around to see the differences from the original firmware to this one... !
Regards,
Lonnie
just to clear this up even though its been posted many many times
there never was a firmware R1d or R1g or R2f etc this is the phone value and changes the least the bit that matters most in Firmware upgrades is the organiser value mine now is R2D02
i presume as stated before that the next one will be C3p0!! (joke)
so when people are saying they have R2f well this is not right as phone R2f was the same for two or so upgrades!
does anyone know if se are not planning anymore firmware updates for the p800? i heard this the other day from someone but think it unblikely right now but in the future very probable anyone with "inside" info??
Got my firmware upgraded to R2d02 at the Carphone Warehouse in Renfield Street, Glasgow on Saturday 9th November.
Had the firmware updated on the 7650 as well and the two took just over an hour. Very friendly staff. Cost 30 for the 7650 though (out of warranty).
One thing. Had backed up the internal memory plus a 64MB memory stick. Went to restore them and it kept crashing the PC with a "Your system is running seriously low on resources" message. Tried three times with the same result. (Win ME with 196MB RAM)
Eventually, I restored just the internal memory, and then just the memory stick and everything worked fine (though I swear my heart stopped for moment),
I never found any information on updates in the USA so called SE and was given the following information :
In North America we have a number for firmware upgrade information: 1 877 234-3249 it will cost $37 for the work with postage and packing.

good luck
Hello there!
I havent seen any post regarding Mexico City yet, so here it is:
I purchased my phone in Mexico City in last July, and I sent it (yesterday) for an upgrade to the Sony Ericsson Service Center:
Avenida Mariano Escobedo No. 373, 5o. Piso
Col. Chapultepec Morales
Mxico D.F.
Tel. (55) 52.55.38.24
THE GOOD NEWS:
The service is free of charges, presenting the proof of purchase for phones purchased in Mexico, and it took no more than 2 hours.
The phone was upgraded to:
Phone: R2F
Bluetooth: R5A
Organiser: R2D02
CDA: R5A02
THE BAD NEWS:
I lost all the phone settings, because I cant restore the last backup I did (got an error in the initializing phase of restore), and the upgrade erased all the WAP, GPRS, HSCD, MMS settings, so Ill have to take my phone to my provider (Telcel) to have them configure it again.
The upgrade didnt erase the data in the memory stick card, so I still have some third party applications installed, but I cant uninstall them through the "Application / Uninstall" Menu because they are no longer listed at this place (just got a blank screen)!!!
THE NOT SO BAD NEWS:
I could at least force a full synchronization so I still have all my contacts and calendar events, even if I have to classify them again because I obviously lost my previous folder settings!!!
Hope this information may be of interest, hope somebody can help me too!!
Now you can update "at home" by your self. -> http://www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice/P900/frameset.htm
i updated today as follows:
phone: r3c006
bluetooth: r5d
Org: r2b02
cda: r2c01
...from cda162003/1 ...bought in sweden
but Bambi this is only for P900 not for P800 (at least for now)🙄
I went to that site for the P900 upgrade and it asks for your CDA number, when I try to view my CDA number on the P800 it says "CDA: Unavailable" anyone else experienced this?
Bought my P800 about 6 months ago in Switzerland/Swisscom.
with
PHONE:R2D
BT:R5A
Org:R2A16
CDA:R3B01
compared with the upgraders in this thread I think this is a pretty good deal.

guess because you've made a Hard Format to your system, usually it goes after the first format, then it gets back after the second (don't know why, at least that's what happened to me)

If you did, can you let us know if it all works OK and what the benefits are?
