Thanks,really interesting,Tony skater-rulez.
I think ngage is more promising than these pictures. I think nokia must work more than this to fullfill the satisfaction 😊
THPS and Red Faction look good, (not exceptional) and the others look very average. I agree a good port of sega rally would be sweet! 😃
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what games are up the N-Gage's many sleeves, because none of this line up inspire me at all.

I wouldn't put too much weight on graphics, because playability is what makes a good game addictive. DOOM or DOOM II for Series 60 (3650/7650 today) (or GameBoy) are good examples: you can pley them on a handheld gaming device and they look very nice, but because these games rely on good graphics, sounds and as large screen as you can have to be enjoyable, there isn't much left of the original idea when you play them on a handheld device with a small screen.
Then again many side-scrolling or 2D platform games can be very addictive. For example Splinter Cell from Gameloft is a very nice and most important of all, very playable game with its 2D graphics.
I haven't been very enthusiastic about these 3D games that I've so far played on Series 60 (3650/7650) phones. Even though they look very nice, small screen size and controls don't match up to requirements of 3D games.
Of course, N-Gage can change all this, because it has been specifically designed for playing games, I wouldn't be too certain yet. Screen size is still as small as with 3650/7650 models today.
Therefore I believe the best games for N-Gage will not be ports from the best known PlayStation or PC titles, but those that have been originally designed for N-Gage -- like the Pathway to Glory online game that Nokia has promised to release in Spring 2004.

You can see more of that in the N-Gage E3 webcast:

Image quality of this video stream is quite bad, though.

Graphics look fantastic indeed! But as Tero mentioned, playability is the most important thing. However I think Nokia has this issue covered...
i wish too that Nokia would really rectify the arising issue before they release this product!
yeah, nice game and screen shots!!!
maybe some game developers should make RPG Games, that would be nice :P

Yeah, N-Gage could really benefit from a RPG game....maybe something japanese style like Zeldas and Final Fantasys. Infact there's some swedish guy doing a zelda-like adventure (but sadly in java, symbian would rock). It looks quite nice. Here's a small demo of the game engine.

edit: oh, and here's a link where I found that demo. And there's also some info about it...

CNET NEWS.COM also has a sneak peak video to N-Gage at E3:

There's better quality video of Tomb Raider and Pandomium for N-Gage than in my previous link.
Enjoy. 😊

Lots of N-Gage game pics here: http://www.gamespot.com/all/news/screenindex_6028393.html?page=1
Oh GOD. The graphics are outstanding for a mobile device. But the screen aspect ratio... very bugging to me and hardly suitable for most of the games (maybe only tetris and pinball games are suitable for it).
Call me boring, but i'm finding it very hard to drum up the same level of enthusiasm as most on the N-gage. The poll on the other thread says 'Yes' almost 60%-40%.
Is it me or have i seen this all before? Nokia really are not doing anyone any favours by releasing a games unit with a load of games that cry "Seen that, been there, got the T-Shirt".
My GBA-SP is awesome, cutting edge handheld gaming technology. The N-Gage is not.
Lee
Is the nGage looking to fight fairly with the GBA? Nope.
Is it looking to fight witht he Seres 60 business phones? Nope.
Is it trying to create a new market for online games in a small unit? I think so, but I'm not sue even Nokia are clear who;s gonna buy this. But it's gonna be fun watching them...
Amnd lets not forget that the in ZX Spectrum games back catalouge (over 6,500), i could find at least 70-100 games that would stomp all over the GBA and other portable systems in terms of depth, gameplay, immersion, etc...
Come on Ewan, Nokia may not want to directly compete with GBA, but you know as well as i do that Mr. Joe Public will directly compare the two and so will the British media.
I know that N-Gage is not directly competing with GBA, but the public will feed off anything the media throws at them. If the media labels the N-Gage a handheld gaming device, people will compare with the GBA. Not fair on Nokia as you're not comparing apples with apples, but without calling the british public stupid, it's hard to get my point across.
I just can't wait to walk into Dixons of a saturday and ask "Whats the difference between the N-Gage and a GBA?"
Agree with the business phone thing though! 😊 And Nokia's marketing plan's should be interesting.
Lee
Point taken - although I think Nokia is not going to push the main difference between GBA and nGage, which is that any owner of the nGage can program their own applications, be it in C++ (which isn't a picnic) to OPL (which is).
A games console that a mortal can program? That's a good difference - although Mr Dixons won't have a clue. That'll go as far as "it's got a phone on it"
GBA is not cutting edge handheld, infact its very low tech with an abysmal soundchip. Thats why it so cheap and Nintendo propably still gets a healthy profit out of it. I cant wait for Sony's handheld, hopefully they will give nintendo a good kick in the ass so they wont be so lazy when designing GBA2.
But I agree that playing games with GBA is much more comfortable than with N-Gage, mainly because of the display size.
One advantage N-Gage has over GBA is that if its my main main phone, its always with me, unlike GBA. I have to remember to take GBA with me, and many times I dont remember or I just dont bother. N-Gage is ideal for quick ten minute gaming session in train, for example. Too bad no hotswap MMCs, might be a pain to swap games on a jumpy bus ride. Back cover, battery, MMCs on the bus floor. 😃
Here's a video of Tomb Raider playing on the N-Gage; http://217.13.1.25/E32003/ngage_tombraider.wmv
The Ngage is an interesting concept, and I'm surprised it didn't stay as a concept. At the moment we have to look back to the first handheld console war, as won my Nintendo:
Contender 1) Nintendo had the worst handheld, black and white screen, crappy sound, and after Tetris and Mario most games were bollox.
Contender 2) Sega had the Game Gear, colour screen, better sound, better looking casing, more powerful device, games like Sonic etc.
Contender 3) Atari had the Lynx, which lived on to the Lynx 2 with better battery life, this had the best Colour screen, better sound than GG, and although similar looking casing, had more games than the GG and better gameplay than most Gameboy games.
So why did the Gameboy win? Because it's batteries lasted longer, the other devices needed 6 and ran them down quite quickly, the GB needed 4 and would flatten them after 8+ hours of continuous use.
So how will we fare now, look at the PDA market, most PDAs last about 5-8 hours without a recharge, my 9210 would last almost a week when new. If the Ngage gets battery life anywhere near that it has a strong chance of beating the GBA, it was never about gameplay, graphics, sound, the battle of portable consoles is battery life.
You have a point there SwitchBlade, but nokia should be careful not making the battery too big and bulky in the N-gage, for now it is lighter then the 7650 which is good. I suggest that Nokia Comes up with some power-saving features on the phone.
with the symbian OS on it.....good chance of people porting emulators to it
imagine if sopmeone got a GBA emu running on it.......lol. unlikely, but would be hilarious
I want this so that we can get frodo for it. a c64 emu where i can use diagonals....mmmmmmm
LOL I can only imagine the lawsuits from NoFirendo if they got a GBA emulator working for the series 60. Ouch that would stomp their GBA sales big time.
Am I the only one who see's the potential for wireless multiplayer gaming on the go as a massive advantage for the N-gage over the GBA?
Expect multiplayer over bluetooth and eventually over GPRS to be one of the key features Nokia's push upon launch. They know it is a vital part of their arsenal if they're to capture the "young adult" market; that is afterall where the most disposable income is, and the very market Nintendo is trying to capture with the GBA-SP.
