Nokia 6600, the 7650 successor?

Is this the new series 60 phone we were expecting from Nokia this year?
Rather nice, with all the features we've been missing on the 7650. Although I still prefer the 7650 design. 😊

Phone looks heavy.

Any idea what kinda price range this will be in?

So the fact that its an OS6 model will mean that it will definately be able to have all the same kinda apps installed on it as a 7650?

i think it is the ONE !!! :P :P

and from the nokia press release it says that compatible with Series 60 platform 2 stuff and MIDP 2.0

so does this means the OS is series 60 platform 2 or still 6 ??

Why oh why can't they upgrade the camera, 640x480 on the 7650 and 3350, I would like to have a higher spec cam. Probably the two things I use most on my 7650 are the calender-to do lists and the camera. Upgrading would make so much more sense (yeah, okay for me I 'm talking about). In my opinion the 6600 look like the bastard ofspring of a 7650x3350 mating. Not impressed.

I wonder what market the pinkish color is intended for... 😉

Other than that, great phone! The first "normal" symbian phone, without strange key-layout or other funky, but unusual gadgets.

Great GReat phone. It seems it has it all.
But don't count on that before 2004.... With previoues phones, Nokia takes about 6-9 months until release. At leaste with the more powerful ones. 7650 was announced in Nov 2001 and released in July/August 2002.

But this is an awesome phone. I will replace my 7650 for this one. It's superb. All the features are nice... Maybe the camera specs could be a little better, but with the 65k color screen, it may help a bit. Please, God, make Nokia deliver this baby sooner!,,,,

The 6600 is stalking me today! 😊 Well, anyway,I don't know what is that platform 2 or 6 or 7 talk,I don't even think such thing exist.

It is running on Symbian 7.0(?) with Series 60 as an UI,might be 2.0.As for the apps,I hope Nokia thought of backwards compatibility, lets hope so.MIDP 2.0 is nice.
Looks funky, wonder how much it will retail for.... ?
in the conference video stream Vanjoki said about 500 euros.

7650 is starting to show its age these days, I've been playing with the idea of getting an SX-1, but not now. Because despite what people say about Nokia blandness, everyone having one, etc, they just do it so much better. The 6600 is a neat looking phone, definitely a worthy replacement to the 7650. I tried the P800, no go. Just one thing, although the UI is series 60, the OS underneath it all is Series 7? Correct? If so, I wonder if Nokia will be able to:

Have a working alarm when the phone is off?
Implement T9?
Implement Line 2?

All things SE found they couldn't put on the P800 due to the OS, or so its been said on here and many other forum.

The UI is series 60,the OS is Symbian 7.0s.

The 6600 and the p800 use Symbian 7.0,but not same version of Symbian 7.0 and i really dont buy that stuff about not being able to implement an alarm when its off because of the OS.My Nokia 7650 has it,probably the 6600 will have it too.

Predictive text input -T9,is listed as one of the 6600 features on Nokia's website.

What is line 2?

PS: p800 not cuting,i find that hard to believe,maybe you were looking for a smartphone,like the 6600,7650 or 3650 and not a PDA/Smartphone combo,like the p800.

-Edit-

About app backwards compatibility,it seems that Nokia thought of that too so most of the apps already available for Series 60 should run on the 6600.

ill never buy another phone with that stupid arsed wee joystick clitoris shaped thing on it again

sorry nokia !

i want to play games, after 5 minutes of playing games when my finger slips off the 7650's clitoris

i think ill be tempted to get an N-gage

If playing games on a phone is so important to you, then the N-Gage will probably suit you fine. Although I like to play games, it's only a pass time in between appointments or such. (I only have one game, Space Invaders on my phone) I find the joystick on the 7650 very easy to use, much better than the t68 flimsy thing. I'm glad it's staying. Good to hear a lot of the 7650 apps will work on the 6600 too, stacker will still be a useful app to have.

IMO

the jotstick on 7650 is far better than SE one such as T68i and T300 cos on SE phones the jotstick is very loose or something like that

Keep researching this baby on the web and it's looking better and better. I think (as with many others in here) this will be the one i upgrade my 7650. 😃
I posted on a different thread about the 'phone and keys in the pocket' sratchin problem like the 3650. It seem Nokia still haven't found a solution to this. Also, no X-press on covers? :-?

Seems a silly question but i couldn't find a spec on how much the thing weighs. After lugging about the 7650 for the last six months, i do not want another 154g phone and the weight will be a major factor in my decision to buy despite all the obviously lovley bells and whistles the 6600 will have. Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks

Lee

6600 looks great no usb that would be great for all those who cant seem to get on with bluetooth and the problems it has had but i want one anyway

it's lighter than a 3310. A 3310 is 133g. 3650 is 130g and i can even feel the difference between those two. only 3g. So it should feel pretty light, i guess.
The UI is series 60,the OS is Symbian 7.0s.
Series 60 2.0 to be exact...

Weights 122g.

Thanks for the correction energy,i forgot about that one 😊

damnit and i was soo prepared to get a Samsung DGH-S700! ( i think that's the model number, the sweet S60 samsung phone, with the cool twirly screen that i am soo gonna break)

I can't decide if it is fugly or not bad, it looks a bit wide for my liking.... but a S60 with a normal keypad? seems as though the 3650's complaints from some caused nokia to listen..
