Tom Tom Mobile 5 FIXED on N70!!

Hi all, i have some generic thing i purchsed on ebay for abot 45, its black with 3 lights on it, lol, thats all i can say, with the external ariel it never ever lost a gps signal.

But i have noticed this, tomtom crashed twice today in the middle of bristol, ferking place that is for it to happen.

The software just closed, no freeze or lockups, just vanishes, re-load, and no gps connection???.

I rebooted the phone, this was all while driving in circles becuase i didnt know where i was, bristol, ferkin place, and foend gps, another say 2 mins, bang software vanishes?????, WTF! is that all about, so i pull over, take the ferkin battery out, AGAIN, reboot, and this time it stayed working.

Now i gotta say this is shit, who need this, and for all this fangled pairing crap, it shud just work full stop.

I wud not buy this software in its present state, was gonna, but nah not now.

Still great when it does work, but not 100%

Damn, soz to hear about that Roden.

As for me...it's so weird...I thought the N70's tones/sounds could have clashed with TomTom...anyway the phone lost the GPS bluetooth connection a few times just now for me...even after a reboot...it chooses when it wants to work...just randomly!

Does anyone here with the V5 firmware have a BT-77 or other 3rd party receiver?

Jon

No ive got the fortuna slim, it,s been OK for a week.no drops just two whitouts on the fone,i put that down to the phone.

Hi

Just bought on ebay for € 50 a SilverShield GPS receiver. I hope it will work fine with my Nokia N70 with TomTom 5.2

I heard a lot of problems about the POI's and speed cams but untill now no problems. I'm using at the moment a TomTom GPS mkII receiver from my Ipaq.

I let you know how the silvershield receiver works on both devices.

Cool, would appreciate it. People have said the TomTom GPS MKII is fine but not perfect on the N70...so just looking around for the most reliable.

Cheers,
Jon

The TomTom mkII works perfect with my N70, if my SilverShield works as good as the mkII I'm a happy man

hi have you got updated patch of tomtom 5.2 .
i got n70 i need a update i try to download from tomtom but that doesnt work can you please let me know
thank you

Hi all, have been wading my way thru this tread!

I'm using a SilverShield BT GPS, and i'm suffering the same as most people, altho, if I drop the GPS signal I can get it back via the SHOW GPS DEVICES option in the TT menus most of the time.

Went for about 3hrs the other day, and was in the middle of no-where, but on my trip into work it'll loose connection 3-4 times!

Tried removing all of the POIs (Gatso's inc) and altho problem is less frequent still happens.

Is anyone using the Nokia BT GPS device (LD-1W i think) an if so it the BT connection any better.

Maybe of some interest that if I turn the 3D map off the problems don't happen as offen.

Cheers...

I think I've found a way to make it 80% stable with the BT-77:

1. Delete all pairings. Then turn bluetooth off.
2. In bluetooth settings, set it to 'Shown to all'.
3. Start TomTom, let it turn on bluetooth.
4. In TomTom, goto 'Show GPS Status'
5. Press 'Configure' then select the TomTom receiver. You will then return to the screen with grey bars.
6. Then press 'Configure' again and choose 'Other Bluetooth GPS'. If your receiver comes up in the list without even doing a search, don't select it. When it says 'Searching' you should then switch on the BT-77. Then choose BT GPS.
7. Now you will have bars going up and down. It will probably drop the bluetooth and say 'No GPS device' 3 times, but then after these 3 drops, it should be fairly reliable after.
8. When finished, goto 'Show GPS Status' again and choose the TomTom receiver. You will have grey bars again, so now turn off your BT GPS receiver.

Try this out and let me know how it goes.

Hi,

Can anyone please confirm that a GPS application is working with the new Nokia N70 firmware (V.30 or greater)?

Do people with the updated Firmware still have Bluetooth connectivity dropping problem using TomTom?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TomTom Navigator 5.20 works perfectly, without any additional PoIs to the standard ones, with firmware version 2 & 3.

I have an EMTAC GPS receiver and using a GPS application and the GPS connectivity is lost randomly. I'm not sure if this is a software or a hardware issue. I have the new N70 firmware.

Please let me know if you have experienced this problem. If so, please state the name/type of your receiver and the version of Firmware you have.

Thank you very much.
I'm in desperate need of help!!!!!!

Just to let you guys know we spoke to nokia and Tomtom about this on fri 24th as we are keen to get it working after buying 5x N70 phones for our engineers at work. Nokia said they are aware there is a problem and we will have to await for a firmware update. Tomtom also said they are aware of a problem with the connectivity manager in the N70 and are looking at a workaround. We are on a mailing list for any updates so soon as we know will let you guys know maybe save everybody pulling their hair out trying to get it to work 😊

Mart69,

Thank you very much for replying. So you are still having the problem with the 5x firmware? We were told by one Nokia representative that the 5x firmware should solve our problem. Our team of engineers have been testing it with the 3x firmware and we are still having this problem.

The 3.x firmware seemed to have improved the bluetooth state a little bit though. Before with the 2.x firmware, we were not able to reconnect to a GPS receiver after the connection was lost. Now, it's reported that the connection still gets lost but you don't have to restart the phone to get the bluetooth connected again.

no still is version 3 but bought 5 phones am going to have 1 flashed tomorrow to version 5 to see if this works any better

Well I've got V5 firmware...and it hasn't made much of a difference 😞

It still says 'No GPS device' now and then, but less frequently and reconnects faster.

Anyone solve this?

Jon

how to get ttm5 and GPS?? is that software to install to my mobile or what??

tnx. regards

Well, what can i say, THANK YOU ALL!!!:icon14: :icon14:

ok, maybe that was a bit hasty, seeing as I haven't even tried any of your tips yet, but it seems they must work, and that can only be a good thing!

I havebeen driven absolutley INSANE by this bloody N70 and tom tom, I've even smashed one to peices in frustrastion with it and I'm getting to the point where I'm convinced I'm going to crash the car because I spend so much time farting about resetting the phone!!

Looking forward to trying the tips and having a stable sat nav system ( I was thinking about selling it)

Just a few points about how and when mine crashes.

Roundabouts:- maybe I corner too fast, I don't know, but my TT crashes nearly all the time on them, it can't seem to keep up and it'll crash as I leave the roundabout.

Changing route:- if I don't like where it's sending me and go elsewhere, it nearly always throws a wobbler and will crash.

never noticed the POI's, but I did hev 3rd party camera locations (loads of em, where do I get this single file from??), as well as asda, mcdonalds, petrol stations and everything else!.

It's DEFINITELY something to do with the screen, and how much is going on (hence the roundabouts, it's no good at rotating that 3d view). I find it works much better with the 3d view off. problem with turnign the map off os that you sometimes can't tell when it's locked up!!

BATTERY, yes, believe it or not, the battery full message causes mine to crash too!

I can't wait for my next journey

thats again guys, you may have just restored my sanity

PS, how do I check what firmware version I have? I had the last N70 upgraded, but then I mashed up up and got a new one direct from nokia.

just turned off the POI's and set it off running a demo route

WOW, how smooth!! the refresh rate is like 5 times smoother! this will be a joy to use now 😊

happy already!

Jon

The Tom Tom one. the grey one, GPS Mk2 or something?

it's an offical copy, registered software, genuine tom tom MMC and GPS unit.

Just thought I'd add my 2p's worth.

Have o2 N70 came with v3 firmware, 32MB card and generic fuzion GPS. Crashed from the begining. Took it away to tenerife and crashed just as often. (1-20mins max). Upgraded card to 1GB with UK maps- crashed. Changed firmaware to v5 - made no difference. Upgraded to TomTom 5.2. No difference. Removing POI speeds things up but still crashes. Turning phone to offline, silent made no difference. Removing pairings helps - sometimes it continously asks for GPS code as it attempts to pair other times not.

Conclusion: :icon13: N70 doesn't work well if at all on TomTom

Last things to try is the TOMTOM MKII GPS reciever but reluctant as other reported trouble with this as well.

Any body have experience using other N-series phones, worth trying N80 ??

Thanks

JM

Hey,

I am wondering if others have a semi-stable setup with Tomtom and N70.

I use a fuzion gps with external MMCX antenna.

I always start TomTom with out Bluetooth started and agree to turn on after starting the app.

1 POI pocketgps - gatso and Janes voice.

I find it never reconnects in 3D mode after dropping.

However in 2D mode I have a semi-stable function it occasionally drops but instantaneously reconnects everytime

Although its not 100% with instant reconnections I can live with it and at least it does not freeze and I have a functioning Sat Nav.

I'd really like to know reliabilites of everyones setup to compare.

[n70 voda v2.0539 BT Fuzion GPS + MMCX 512MB]

Got a Fuzion GPS as well and did a bigger test with it together with my ipaq and tomtom mkII receiver and that one connected in seconds and 5min of searching was needed to get the Fuzion connected. Then it stays connected and worked perfectly.
I was using my pda with tomtom and my N70 with fuzion at the same time without problems, but just before I reached my destination my N70 got stuck and I had to restart it. It's strange, the first time it gets stuck in TomTom.
But conclusion, the Fuzion works. Not so good as the mkII but it works, but the N70 GPS still stays for emergencies.

Since I upgraded firmware to version 3 and loaded only the single file pocket gps safety cameras I have not had a not problems with tomtom 5.2 and official tomtom gps mkII.

I would thoroughly recommend using only the single file and therefore only getting general gatso alerts rather than speed zoned warnings. At the end of the day it's usually pretty obvious what the limit is so any alert should suffice.

Hi al,

Finally took delivery of my Nokia BT GPS (LD-1W)

Have been testing it all day with NO disconnect problems what so ever.

Have yet to try with POI's, but took 3 calls with no problems either.

Still running TT5 and ver. 2.0537.1.7 s.w on my phone.

I know the Nokia GPS is a little more expensive, but with the complete lack of problems I think its worth it.

Cheers

Adam

well, I have to give it a MASSIVE thumbs up!

it's now workign virtually flawlessly! still in the old V2, with the pocketgps single file speed camera (but no visible POI's). having POI's on makes the screen refresh rate go too slow and jerky.

the only porblems I've had are if I have to get out of the car for any reason, and when I return and try to connect back to the GPS it just won't have it unless I reset the phone (off and on again).

been using it every single day for a week now, hasn't missed a beat save for sometimes taking a while to pick up a satellite signal when I'm at work.
