silly question but if i run backup all fone on pc suit , can i then have my fone flashed with this firmware , then restor settings when i get home on pc suit.

so i dont loose my settings / numbers etc

I just came back from the Nokia service centre, Peninsular Park, Bugby's Way, Charlton
London, London
SE7 7SE
08707204171

they said my firmware V 3.0617.0.6
03-05-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (31.01)
is the latest and they havent received new firmware, I told them that nokia distribute it at the same time to all service centres and that ask them why not, said will get in two weeks.
whats going on?

I am thinking of flashing the phone myself, as my nearest service centre is 160 miles away.

My phone was supplied with cable (CA-53), the flash file says it requires (DKU-2)
My question is can I use the supplied cable (CA-53).

I apologise if this has been covered elsewhere.

You can use the CA53 cable that was supplied with the handset, no problem.
I successfully flashed my N80 using the standard Nokia CA53 cable a few hours ago.

Everything you need (apart from the FW file) is available at http://nokia.dogtoe.com/
The v4 FW is available at http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C7107U1Q

I think the site's struggling due to demand for downloads at the moment 🙄

It's taken me a couple of hours to get at the downloads, and I'm in the process of grabbing the last file..

*Update*: All done as per the guide. Restore from memory card worked well and all my apps seem intact. Can't say I've noticed any improvements yet but then I'm still just happy I didn't brick it..
Overall - easier flashing process than Windows Mobile 5 kit (I upgraded my boss's Jasjar on Thursday and it took me three hours!). Biggest hassle was getting all the software downloaded.

I'll try and check the GPS issue with Nav4All and report back if I get a chance this weekend.

Hi, am thinking of upgrading mine today, but would like feedback to route 66 mobile 7 and Latest N80 firmware, ie is it now stable ? i no people probrably havnt had time to test yet, but at least we can find out if it was definately the bluetooth in the old firmware of the n80, or definately the mapping software within route 66 mobile 7...

Feedback Please

Brian

The BT connection on the previous FW is very flacky. Set your headset volume to high on the phone. While you have ur BT headset connected, use speed dial to connect to a phone number, you can see the volume bar on the screen decreases to almost minimum when the speed dial button is depressed. I hope this get fixed in the new FW version. Can anyone test this out to confirm that it is not only me and that it is fixed by the new FW?

The releases are probably staggered - of the 4 service centres in 20 miles of me, only 1 had the updated software. They were a small independent who let me speak to the actual engineer, who checked the available versions online with Nokia as he spoke to me. He confirmed the new release was made available on Thursday 17th August (and was a little surprised I knew about it).

The guy at my local service centre found the latest firmware but couldn't install in on my phone. He said something about an incompatible product code. Anyone know what this means? He said he would have to phone nokia on monday if i can bring it back.

I'm considering doing it myself now, do you guys think it will be ok? my current firmware is
v3.0614.0.3
11-04-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (50.01)

i have a sim free phone from o2 that has generic firmware on it

Anyone managed to flash there n80 ok yet?
Cheers

Jayd wrote:What Files exactly did you use?

Did it select them automatically for you? If you have succesfully flashed the phone where can I find the Anti virus software. Mines flashed but the anti virus seems to be missing. Also the PDF etc.

Please tell me what files exacty you used. Thanks

I use'd JAF to flash and picked V01 PPM, no anti virus or PDF, however Device Manager now has the FOTA option there

khedara wrote:where did you do the upgrade from?

Did it myself at home, once I located the firmware I used by JAF box to flash it over USB and it worked perfectly 😊

skearon wrote:I use'd JAF to flash and picked V01 PPM, no anti virus or PDF, however Device Manager now has the FOTA option there

It doesn't actually state FOTA does it? Mine says current version , then lists firmware then it allows you to search for an update but none is available. Is that was yours is like?

That's what mine shows, but FOTA is the only purpose it could be for AFAIK.

Anyone figured out the new Windows Media Player sync mode on a cable connection? Not that I use WMP, but I'm hoping someone will knockout a plugin for iTunes use..
*UPDATE*: Ah - presumably it's like the modes on the 3250 etc..

Mine has same, wasn't there before, as this was only just released I presume there won't be an update available yet, but looking forward to trying it when one does appear

However can anyone confirm that bluetooth GPS software works?
I have firmware v3.0614.0.3 which currently works fine with gps.
I don't want to flash yet just incase 😊
Did people upgrade use the megaupload file from this thread with pheonix?
Thanks

So far I've noticed the following post-flash (using the dogtoe guide and the megaupload file - installing V01 variant):

  • No Adobe Reader - I don't want it anyway
  • No AntiVirus download link - I don't want it anyway
  • FOTA pull function in Device Manager - YAY
  • Music device sync mode available on cable connection
  • Menus seem slightly faster as does boot (but that may just be my imagination)
  • Clearer text in messaging thanks to bold font introduction.
  • Backup and restore to / from memory card worked beautifully - YAY
  • No data loss overall - based on backing up to memory card pre flash and removing SIM and miniSD before flashing.

My initial tests indicate no problem with bluetooth GPS software.

I've tested with the free application from 3dTracking: http://free.3dtracking.net/ for the last 20 - 30 minutes without any dropout.
I've also got Nav4All installed, but that wouldn't work after I flashed the phone until I uninstalled it and then reinstalled. Then so far no problem. I've been using Nav4All to monitor the GPS receiver for the last 20 minutes without and connection problems.

*EDIT* Just noticed Navicore have updated their site to indicate N80 compatibility requires this firmware or higher: http://www.navicoretech.com/Consumer/Support/Compatibility/2006/en_GB/2006/

All in all I'm a happy bunny..

Did you previously Flash the N80 yourself?
I imagine the engineers expect all UK Nokias to be on the V01 Language file and was surprised yours is on 50.01.

I would go ahead and flash it anyway... but don't come back crying if it doesnt work. Your own risk...

Thats what I got told today! Wasn't the guy in Newquay was it?

Got mine flashed today at the Nokia Service Centre in Angel, London (N1).

He did tell me that for some reason about half of the N80's he has attempted to flash have been unsuccessful. Not sure why, mine was fine.

Have only had the phone a week before flashing, so can't really make any immediate comaprison.

does the the cable driver file on that site really need to be installed, since i have the CA53 drivers already on my laptop?

Just done mine..or I think I have.
It all looks the same.

How do I tell what Firmware i have in it?
Is there a AntiVirus??

Thanks

You generally have to uninstall the standard cable drivers when installing the flashing program. The new driver will be FBUS enabled which allows it to talk to the phone hardware a lot more directly. From what I remeber from flashing my 6680 tho the FBUS driver that comes with Phoenix isn't compatable with PC Suite...

With FOTA do you have to have server profiles defined in Dev. Mgr. or does it automatically pull from a known Nokia Server?
For that matter does anyone know of any networks providing server profiles? According to the manual, companies can run their own profile servers but there is no mention of what standard the profile server is based upon.
I suspect it's going to be a while before we see whether FOTA actually works at all..

EDIT:
Ah ok, I've found that Nokia has a reference server for the Dev. Mgr. stuff - http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/resources/technologies/device_mgt_and_sync/oma_device_management/examples.html

Another small point that occurs, does the generic V4 firmware add PTT software? The UK Vodaphone firmware appears not to bother including it (not a good sign for anyone hoping for POC on VodaUK in the near future 😊 )

Well i finaly bit the bullet and successfully flashed to v4. using my CA-53 cable Phoenix complained that that it could not establish the version of (Flash update package), but I just clicked continue.

Now reads

V 4.0623.0.41
26-07-2006
RM-92
Nokia N80 (01)

The last line used to read (33.01)?

The bluetooth headset problem (above) has gone, I had noticed that the volume always went to low, but had not linked it to speed dialing.

I have had a problem with poor signal strength compared to my 6230i, this seems better. I'm on o2.

Thanks for all your help

I have discovered the problem. You have to have the newset Pheonix 2006_20_9_148 installed. I flashed 3 times with an older build it was still 2006 but the new features never appeared. But I started from scratch following the BB5 Reaper 2006 ( Google search it ) guide and now all the features have installed and the phone seems quicker. Video camera is still crap though.
