It seems that those clips infact don't work on a "stock" P800. (I can't go into further details).

Converting, resizing, downloading, commercial version, warez, standards, l3, mpg, quicktime,.... I am becoming crazy reading this forum!!!
I would like to know why sonyericsson decided for that absurd video-format...
However: wouldn't it be easier just to write a videoplayer for p800 platform, in place of attempting to write .mp4 files? I think there are a lot of opensource videoplayer, it shouldn't be difficult, to a programmer, to port one (or more) of them to p800. Or not?

Luca

Creating video for P800 is easy... people make it hard by using crap software like mpegable.

Just get pv author from www.pv.com and the p800 profiles for quick easy results. Select you input file press go and out it pops, optimised for p800. NOT difficult really.

For better quality results (including AAC sound) get QuickTime Pro and export to MP4, making sure the settings are reasonable for use on the P800. If need be get them from pvauthor.

YES! that must be it, why didn't I think of paying for a one pass solution with no accurate resize and crippled sound.

Or better yet, pay even more to get QTpro just as useless as pv but with a mac gui.

All this time I've been encoding hi quality two pass with Xvid and AacMachine using avisynth trough virtualdub mod, all for free ... what was I thinking of stupid stupid me!

My message was in response to the claim that it was difficult to encode MP4 for a p800, which in reality it is not. The post was complaining about having to use different apps for different things and having to resize, etc and generally the process of making MP4's. I was making the point that there are 2 standalone apps that will enocde easily for you. I was making no claims on the quality of pv just that it was quick and easy. PV is crap, hence saying to use QuickTime. Quicktime is perfectly good at making MP4's, no audio sync problems and videos will play on other devices fine.

You have decided to use FOUR different apps to make a video that is max 200x200 in size for a device that will only display 4096 colours and has a max uasable framerate of 12fps... OTT?

can some1 please give me a site so i can download mp4 movies. I heard Raven has one but he hasnt changed it since March.
(dunno if its Raven)
but can u please give me a site because i got my 128mb Duo yesterday and i want videos...pweez

Guest, I have been reading various threads about making the "perfect" mp4 for the p800 without getting much clarification. I agree PV sucks quality wise but if I understand you correctly, you are saying that Quicktime offers a good and reasonable balance between efforts and quality (audio and video) for the p800?

Sorry about that, been kind of lazy lately..

I'll start updating the site soon. Any suggestions for video clips are of course welcome.. 😊

simpsons..and stufff..i just watched all ure simpsons videos and theyre really good..but just keep up the good work !! 😃

Contour.

This is true, you can encode a MP4 that will play on the P800 just using Quicktime, with excellent quality.

As long as you have all the latest updates, basically QuickTime 6.2 AND have the Pro version, then all you simply need to do is open up the movie you wish to encode, then select Export and choose MP4 as the file format. Select the settings, and ensure that you reduce the video size to be able to fit the screen. Also check the other settings to reduce Bitrate and FPS. Also, you should reduce the audio rate as well.

Unfortunately I have just reformatted my PC and so can't remeber the exact QT settings for decent quality on the P800, but if you get the Excel file from www.pv.com, they will be listed in there. Like all file compression, there is a trade off between file size and quality, based on personal preference so I would get a 1mb or less video, and encode it using different settings to see which you prefer. Also bear in mind the limitations of the P800. I will do some tonight and post what I think here.

Admitidly, it is not quite as simple as PacketVideo, but at least you will get a standard MP4 using AAC audio compression, so it will work on other devices conforming to the standard. Plus, once you've got the settings you are happy with, you won't have to touch the settings again, just choose export. And you only need have one application.

I have just checked the www.pv.com site and they have a 'new' version of their software for trial. I don't know about the quality of this version, though the demo does not say it does not have AAC encoding.
Anyway, the profiles are now coded into the app, so there is no zip file containing the settings on the site anymore.

IMO QuickTime is the best bet anyway if you want to make MP4's, as most people will have it on there systems anyway, so it saves installing another aplication. Also, it does lots more than just encode to MP4, and is pretty simple to use.

Thx a lot Guest! 😊

I will give it a shot, as soon as I return from my summer vacation to New York! I have the PV excel file from a previous download - will use those settings.

Right I've done some testing, and you get excellent results by following this guide...

Open your movie in Quicktime and then select File > Export...

Choose Movie to MPEG-4

Press Options button

Select Video from drop down

Video track = Improved
Data Rate = 128kbits/sec
Frames per second = 12
Key Frame every 24

Select Audio

Audio track = Music
Data rate = 64kbits/sec
Channels = Stereo
Output Sample Rate = 22.050khz
Encoding Quality = Best

Select Streaming and set to none

Compatibility set to ISMA

Select General and set the Video Size to 160x120

OK > Save and you done!

Unfortunately, I don't know how to increase the size to max size a P800 accepts, without encoding to a MOV and resizing first, then encoding to MP4 and retaining size, BUT if you export to Movie to 3GPP (available in QuickTime 6.3) and copy the same settings as above (selecting Mobile MP4 as the format), you can get a max size of 176x144 which is almost the whole area. The file will have an extension of 3GP but will work fine on a P800, and there is no difference between the quality of MP4 and 3GP. Note: there may be a warning that the file is not compatible, but that is regarding file size, in that it is deemed to large for a mobile device, but it wont effect playback of the file.

Next time you encode a movie, as long as you choose Most Recent Settings, then the file will encode for playnack fine.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I just wanted to demystify that it is hard to encode a quality movie for a P800!

Again Guest, thx a lot - I am sure you helped a lot of us.

And don't worry about the length, most lengthy posts contain a lot less usefull info than yours.

Thx...

I am trying to convert mpeg's (using the mpeg2 plugin) recorded by my digital camera (Sony) and Quicktime tells me that there will be no audio output as the movie doesn't have an audio track (though there is sound on my video when I play it in the Quicktime player...).

Any ideas?

Dont know about the MPG2 plugin, but you could check that the audio track is enabled, otherwise extract the audio uncompressed and then add it back as a track to replace the one that wont export.

Like i said i havent used that plugin and I've never messed with tracks, but I cant imagine that you couldn't...

[quote="50 Cent"]Hi, 😃 😃 8) :P

This Settings should work good with mpegables software and SonyEricsson P800.

I dot know why that has been reposted when this part of the thread is talking quicktime and not mpegable

Has anyone encountered this problem?

Some of the videos I convert to Mp4 end up weird... the video and sound quality are good... but there is a lag in the video... it almost feels like watching an old chinese Kung fu movie.

lol, i had that problem on the phone itself, but after just pausing the movie, and fast foreward it a little or rewind it, it would rebuffer and then be in sync again

That is a big problem with mpegable, but ive never had it with quicktime or packet video. Then again my movies are only music vids, so only about 4mins. Dunno what would happen with 30mins+

BTW does anyone know how to encode using premiere?

does anyone what program can i use to use resize the video, and what size should i put it to. I downloaded mpegable but everytime i make a movie and transfer it to P800 it says the viewing size is to big or something like that .

Hmmm... lemme try to convert movies using other programs then.

Adobe Premier? I know I've seen some post about that somewhere... try doing a search about it...

chamber,

160 x 120 should be fine, there's an option for it in mpegable... also try reading the other posts in this forum. a lot of information has already been posted that may be helpful to you.
