For anyone having problems post-flash - do a hard-reset *#7370#
Restoring from back-up (applications) is also asking for problems - it's now a different hardware device.
new nokia n95 firmware is out 12.0.013
For the record, I have done the following process both times I upgraded and have had no issues:
Make a backup with PC Suite
Change my T-Mobile product code to Euro1 plum (using NSS)
Upgrade the firmware through NSU
Change my product code back to the original
Restore the backup
Changing your product code back won't make any difference.
If you send it in for repair under warranty, they'll see as soon as they boot it up that it's not T-Mo FW and the warranty's voided.
Nor will it make any difference to restoring from backup - which is a fool's game, regardless of FW - because it's now different hardware.
I also did a backup to phone memory and then restored without problem when I moved from v11 to v12. I did have a problem trying to restore a backup when I moved from my VF branded N95 to generic v.11, but I assume that is because VF branded version had apps and modifications that conflicted with the generic firmware.

Warranty is with Nokia and as long as the phone has nokia firmware warranty stands, i'v had my old 6630 flash years back with generic firmware by service centre from 3 crap branding, rock solid phone so never needed repair

The network.
I think what he is saying is, your one year warranty is with Nokia as standard, and therefore they'll not be fussed about the firmware.
The only problem would be with extended warranties offered by the network (service provider) taken out at the time. Obviously, they may wish to flex their 'warranty void' muscle upon finding out the firmware isn't theirs.

Thanks, it is what i meant and new nokias since 2 years ago come with 24 months warranty
HELP . . When I am going through the update of it.....it goes through the download of the new software, restarts the phone to apply the update and I get USB Device Not Recognised. I am certain I have installed all the drivers and checked three times, can anybody point me in a direction to get this resolved.
Thanks in advance

hey when the phone update it does turn off and reconnect dont touch anything or you will mess it up, just wait for the progress bar to complete
Halon wrote:There are also some small differences in the screen saver / light timeout etc options.yeap i notice that too flashes when it goes in screen saver and flashes again when goes in black screen again:con?I've noticed that with mine the blue light on the gallery button on the side of the phone flashes when the display goes to screen saver. I assume this is an added feature from Nokia's 'Small But Annoying Glitch in New Firmware Department.'
its a feature
Can anyone confirm the following if possible:
If you had an additional line(2) after update was it still there, if so which UK operator are you with (O2, T-Mobile etc etc)
If you are an orange customer, did you have a line 2 and lose it after upgrade or not.
the reason i am asking is that if another operator offers ALS (additional line service - line 2) i can use the product code for that operator accordingly and upgrade to V11 and or V12
If any one can help i would be grateful,,,, 😊
I have just got the N95 as an upgrade from Vodafone. I have downloaded the latest version of the software updater from the Nokia site. I have tried to update the firmware to version 12 yet it says my phone already has the latest version, which is 11. Can anyone help me here? I am in the UK ifd that makes any difference.
Thanks.

Your N95 is a branded version (?) with a customized firmware (specific product code; check your box or label behind battery and lookup in this thread http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/58225/). Updated firmware probably not available for your product code yet. Usually EURO1 and EURO2 are the first to be released and some branded versions can take ages before an update becomes available through NSU...
After upgrading fm v11, I can't download any ringtones anymore !
Vodafone Live -> Ringtones -> NO SUPPORTED RINGTONES FOR YOUR PHONE MODEL
I tried to download from other ringtone-sites: same result!
I also noticed, that the keypad sometimes not responds: you've to push the button twice !
I've a generic model . . .
But for the rest: love the v12-update !
I did upgrade to the new version.
As a careful person I did my back up too to my 2MB mini SD.
After the updated though I found out that my SD is locked with a password I did not enter.
So you better make a backup to you PC too...
Just upgraded to v12 without any problems,
I have a CPW 02 Graphite Grey N95 (UK)...
So I had to change the product code with NSS to EURO1 sand.
Before the firmware I backed up to both mem card and PC via pcsuite.
Once firmware was installed ok, I restored from memory card.
Only half my aps got restored for some peculiar reason. Anyways, half is better then nothing...
All seems ok...

I'm not surprised.
Flashing implents another hardware configuration.
IOW, it's a DIFFERENT phone.
So you've backed up everything from one type of phone - and restored to another.
I seriously think that this error should be stickied.
So many people do not or will not understand what flashing actually is.
I think we really need more light/official info on this issue of restoring backups after a firmware flash.
Ive done it before many many times with my old n80 and now with my n95, never really had any major problems with it.
Why would the app let u restore a backup if as many say it's incorrect to do so? Seems weird, a little firmware check before a restore surely ain't hard to code lol....
This topic is clear as mud imho, hopefully someone has more details/official information.

Why do you need an 'official' to tell you what people have been saying about restoring to phones running different FW ?
Their saying something won't change anything in the slightest.

I find most sis based apps and games require reinstalling.

There are vastly differing experiences on these forums though. I could trust the many "it will funk up your phone" stories or go on experience (done it twice and it was fine).
All I was trying to find out was:
1) Restore should never be used after a firmware flash, was not designed for this.
2) Restore function can be hit/miss (buggy?) and can fail sometimes, but was meant to be used, amongst other scenarios, after a firmware flash.
Seen how Nokia do tell you to make sure to backup your phone before a firmware flash, I personally, would think its more a case of 2). But again IMHO...
So when I said I needed an official view, I wanted to find some source that would confirm 1) or 2), ideally from the mouth of nokia...
that's all 😊

Fair do's.
But you can't beat a clean install. 😃
anyone with the product code 0547686 upgrade to v12? im still showing 11. 0.026 as the latest version :con?
its a sim free plum color n95 from amazon.co.uk
Two things I am impressed with since V12...
A-GPS is excellent.
Camera now works better - there was a delay on the old version between when you take a photo and what the camera actually takes. This is much better on V12.
Thanks. I checked my code and it is a branded version, Vodafone 8547869 so it looks as if there is no update for that yet. I don't think I will bother changing my code with NSS, I'm in no real hurry and will wait for the official update for my code.
Thanks again.

It's been reported over the last 18 months in N80 and N95 forums that restoring a backup after Firmware upgrades usually causes some problems or other. It's best to only Synchronise with PC Suite then manually re-install any missing apps.
ut666 wrote:Why would the app let u restore a backup if as many say it's incorrect to do so? Seems weird, a little firmware check before a restore surely ain't hard to code lol....
Very good point, but unfortunately, most of us are not only upgrading the FW but also de-branding by changing the product code to Generic Euro-1. Therefore we are probably not using the backup/restore app as it was intended.
Anyway, I have found with experience the most reliable N80/N95 handset after flashing the FW is one where all missing apps are manually re-installed (if required) - 75% of apps located on a memory card reinstall themselves automatically. 100% of Java apps automatically reinstall but simply don't work.
A PC Suite Synchronisation for Contacts/Calendar is the only type of backup/restore that doesn't cause potential problems.
