Hi Guys, great news about the update!
But I've got one questions if someone brainiac could help me with!
Basically, I have got the 3 years free sat nav with T-Mobile.
When I do update, will it erase this and will it still be valid?
Because from what I've read, the company you have to talk to about the navigations aren't exactly helpful!
Thanks!
Back Up Your Phone Memory Will Sort This And Dont Format Memory Card
As long as you have your licence code you will be fine, just done mine and all ok.
Go into maps, and go as if to buy a licence, however there is one for licence code, put it in and hey presto!
I have O2 UK phone PC - 0548364 no update was available, so I changed product code with NSS to 0536062 euro1 and it worked perfectly 😊
Would there be any reason to change product code back to O2 one?
There are also some small differences in the screen saver / light timeout etc options.
I've noticed that with mine the blue light on the gallery button on the side of the phone flashes when the display goes to screen saver. I assume this is an added feature from Nokia's 'Small But Annoying Glitch in New Firmware Department.'
the sharpness bug is now fixed for the camera modes!
is the bug on the LOG (missed, dialed and received, where all phone icons are mobile ones) fixed?
No, they're still all mobile icons.
I didn't even realise there was anything wrong there :con?
Upgraded here eventually to v12.
I've seen the gallery light flashing bug previously mentioned, but I've also noticed that within the Maps program, it lists WiFi and packet data connections for A-GPS, but if you try to choose a WiFi access point it just returns you to the list and won't save the setting unless you choose a packet data connection. If you go to Settings > Positioning and then try to change an access point, only packet data connections show in the list (no WiFi).
So, looks like you can't use WiFi access points for A-GPS, which I have no problem with, but there is definitely a bug (at least for me) where in the Maps program, WiFi access points are also listed with packet data access points for A-GPS, but are unselectable.

What was the sharpness bug about?? Never heard about it.
Looks like the mediaplayer quality has been improved. Volume better to say.
When I play my MP3's the sound is better now and the volume is higher too.
I have sent an e-mail to the swedish Nokia Support for information about a release notes. Will se what they are answering.

Did anyone who has upgraded to V12 notice a problem with their alarm this morning?
Pressing snooze didn't stop my alarm, it just carried on, but then when I pressed stop, it put it into snooze mode........:con?
It didnt do this before my upgrade yesterday......

Can't approve it. Tested it right now. Alarm is coming up, I press "snooze" and the alarm went off. After 5 minutes the alarm comes up again. Pressing "stop" closes the alarm.
Looks like this function is working as in the previous firmware version. Nothing to complain about this function. :icon14:

I think my n95 is a goner....
The nokia software updater appears to have frozen. It has been like this for more than half an hour now, and the phone is displaying the nokia logo.
Will leave it running another 30 minutes or so just in case but although the progress bar still animates it would appear it isnt actually progressing any further.
Anyone else had this issue? Or can provide a estimate of how long the update should have taken? I think mines just bodged it.
Am tempted to cancel it and try again, but am worried i wont be given the opportunity since cancelling will end up in a brick :/
Is there anyway to recover a bricked phone from home? Perhaps it wont be bricked and I may be able to reflash the software, is it worth the risk to find out?
Can anyone offer some advice apart from marching to my nearest service center :/
?
@MurphmanL
The update took for me incl. downloading and installing 12 minutes.

Ouch
Doesn't sound right to me! Check you're not still downloading it incase you've got a slow connection?
Nice update. Where can I find a changelog?

NEVER EVER restore a backup after flashing. I causes serious problems.
Things can dissapear from menu's, general phone unreliability, crashing, etc.
You are correct about not formatting the memory card though. 😉

i always restore backup, i even did it when i flashed to v12. i had no problems except few apps was not installed from memory card which i reinstalled and was all ok
Did you restore just from the card or from your computer?
First time I updated it (from 10 to 11) I tried the back directly from the card with no success. But there wasn't any back up software for the Mac.
Now on the the Mac there is Nova Media Fone Link that does the backup on the computer. If you did from your PC I'll try it them...

Hi Ronaldo,
Looks like you were lucky. 😉
There's been plenty of posts from users over the last 12 months in N80 and N95 forums who have had problems after flashing then doing a restore.
Cheers,
Dez
mileage may vary on this restore from backup thing.
I have never had a problem with it yet others swear they bricked their phones after restoring from backup.
I always re-install the apps anyway (years of windows experience!)
Good luck! again the upgrade is well worth it.😊
Restored my backup too after updating firmware to v12 and all is fine. A couple of games missing but everything is working and stable.
Geraner wrote:Thanks. From where to download and install the missing themes?
/Geraner
I've seen a copy of the missing them that was called 'default'.
IMHO this was the worst out of the pre-installed themes :icon13:
PM me for the link as it's at a warez site and i think i'll be breaking rules if i post site link.
aldosari wrote:From what I read .. Updating the firmware is NOT a good idea
I've not had any problems so far,so it's a :icon14: from me
No problems here either. Updated the firmware then restored a backup from the previous version - no problems. Had to re-install a few applications and games but that was no hardship.
No noticeable issues because of this and I have to give a thumbs up to the firmware, seems to be a stable release. Certainly no reason why you should hold off of updating.
I upgraded the firmware (haven't noticed any changes yet) but I always lose any games I have downloaded, the other apps all reinstall but the games are just dead, I'm having to crawl back to the supplier again now to see if they will issue them again!
For all these people who say don't restore from backup, does this mean you have to reinstall all your apps and create the contacts again each time you upgrade??
The problems occur with backups occur when you restore a 'branded operator backup' to a 'unbranded' generic firmware upgrade.
For example your phone was on vodafone, you change the product code using NSS and upgrade your firmware to a Euro1 generic one, in this case you should NOT restore a backup as you will have problems afterwards and possibly brick your phone.
The next time you upgrade your firmware your phone will already have the generic firmware so backup should work just fine.

Doesn't that mean you could just use NSS to change back to the original PC and the restore will then work?
That my reckoning too. If you change the product code, don't restore the backup, but if you keep to the same product code, you should be fine.
I've been on generic from v10 and backedup and restored the contents and settings both times without any problems.

No, it does use a wifi connection if there is one, even though you cannot set a preferred wifi point in the A-GPS settings.
