SPB Mobile Shell

I tried beta 295 a couple of weeks ago but found that the memory usage was too high (causing maps to crash). I sent feedback to SPB and uninstalled it.

I tried 316 last week and memory usage was better but performance was compromised slightly. I sent feedback to SPB and uninstalled it.

I tried 332 last night and received the message "Your 15-day trial has ended".

I don't feel as though I've had a trial of the software at all, more like tested it for the developers.

Apart from contacting SPB is there another way to reset the 15-day trial start date?

I also noticed that the settings/customisations were preserved between the uninstall of 295 and the install of 316, is there a way to restore the original configuration because I made a mess of all the screens.

Cheers!
Matt.

On the home screen, select the bottom right settings button and choose "Reset to default".

lol. so funny.

if this had come with the n97 it would be a different device - albeit with a scratchy lens and dodgy gps - but it is super smooth and shiny with it.

won't stop me defecting, but the 2 week trial will make the 2 weeks of iWait more bearable...

I couldn't agree with you more on that point Dave.

This is something that all new Nokia's should come with.

And Samsungs and SEs .. I'm using it on my Satio .. its terrific!

Will be interesting to see if it runs well on the N8 .. { I wrote to SPB and asked them .. sadly the N8 won't support it }

MonarchX wrote:So...does N97 run the new version well or still sluggish? Slower than default UI?

It runs it very well indeed.

I find it a lot faster and smoother and does not "hog" RAM.

Also it is soooo configurable and "mod-able".

As angiepea mentioned, I have deleted all my built-in screen widgets, which gave me back about 10MB of RAM.

It has a 15 day trial so why not give it a whirl.

The release version of SPB Mobile Shell v3.5.5 Build 295 is available for download here:-

I don't think anything can run slower than the default UI 😡

Do try it, it's pretty amazing 😊

Thanks! I saw a YouTube video a month back or so with SPB Shell and it ran pretty slow... slower than default UI.

I'm gonna give the beta a go now, thanks.

Not sure it will work though. I had changed the time on my phone to install an app I had signed with an expired certificate. When I changed the time back, my SPB shell trial said it had expired... even though I was only three days into it.

[EDIT] Installed ok, and the trial has restarted at 15 days again which is good. What isn't good though, is that the Media Player doesn't seem to work. It just displays a square box. RAM-wise, according to my DeviceInfo widget, is between 33-34Mb free on bootup which is 3-4Mb better than with the release build.

[EDIT #2] Removed my little tweaks and the Media Player shows up ok now.

have you got a step by step on signing this?

i know that you have lots!

thanks

Hey TP

first of all you need to get a key and cert - i've been through the chinese website linked to here

http://forum.dailymobile.se/index.php?topic=11701.0

these guys explain it really well, so the instructions are easy to follow.

You then need to download an app called "freesigner" http://forum.dailymobile.se/index.php?topic=818.0

When you get your key and cert, open up your mass memory via pc suite, make a new folder "keycert" and put them in there.

make another new folder "myinstalls" and put spb shell in there

load "freesigner" as you would usually load apps.

come out of pc suite

open up freesigner on your phone
go to options - settings - scroll down to sign cert (then follow the instructions to take you to the cert you have loaded to your mass)
go to options - settings - scroll down to sign key (as above)

go to Add Task, look for your new spb shell that you have loaded in "myinstalls" and highlight it, then click options - add - sign sis (not self sign)

This will then take you to another screen, you will see it loaded, go to options and then "Go !"

All you have to do now is to go to "my installs" on your e drive where you loaded the first spbshell, you should then see that you have 2 sis files, click on the one that you signed and it should load to the phone.

That's it

😃

Hmmm, how did you get another 15-day trial?

I have not tried to install the latest version yet, but 332 knows that my trial has expired regardless of my phone's date.

I emailed SPB requesting another trial period and they replied with this:

[FONT="Courier New"]If you already installed SPB Mobile Shell before, it should ask you to register the
program after 15 days. Unfortunately, it is impossible to extend the 15-days trial
period, but to solve this problem you can perform a hard-reset.

matthewrleech wrote:Hmmm, how did you get another 15-day trial?

I can't say for sure. What I do know is that when it claimed my 15 day trial had expired (even though technically only 3 days had passed) it wouldn't close and kept interfering with my phone's normal use, so I uninstalled it. I then downloaded the latest beta, signed it, and installed it. Sure enough, the trial restarted at 15 days again.

Maybe it's because I switched from the release version to the beta.

zxon wrote:I'm confused... I thought their latest version was v3.5.5?

me too ... it says 3.5.5 on the website, but that's not what you get when you download.

so it's not exactly as it says on the tin ..... apparently 🙄

Hi All

I am probably being really thick here but ........

1.how do I completely close SPBshell ?it states in the manual about tapping menu - its a bit vague and does not say hard key menu or shell menu? and selecting options I cannot find a close spbshell button anywhere - I am running handy taskman and every time I press hard key menu and `kill` shell it just reboots.I want to close completely to free up ram for other apps.

2.Also is there anyway to return to app factory settings ? I have just installed latest trial and it stayed with previous settings ?There is a return to default button in prof menu but this only changes the page layout - does not seem to be the same option in lifestyle menu?

Thanks in advance

1 and 2 !!! . Launcher - spb launcher - settings and then go to the box in bottom right hand corner, this will bring up a window which says - backup settings - restore settings - exit shell

😊

Thanks Angiepea

Thats interesting I must have deleted spb launcher icon when mucking about with launcher icons - not there any more! any ideas.

Do not worry if not - I have tried it for last few days but miss my default email widget which displays mail headers - not inclined to pay 30 dollars without a similar widget - the control is nice but I can happily cope with default home page.I really find it useful to check emails at a glance

Thanks

Boothy

You can open the launcher by just pressing the physical N97 menu button.

...so I performed a hard-reset and installed 3.5.5 (aka 3_5_349).

After boot with SPB shell running I have 42.3MB free, and look at this:

Running SPB Mobile Shell, Maps, Profimail, Music Player, Screensnap, Photo Viewer and X-Plore and still have 7.3MB free
which is enough for my RSS feeds to update in the background.

Does anybody know how to enable the 3D carousel reflections or how to tilt the carousel angle, as shown on the SPB website?

Just seen these discount code links on another website, thought someone might find them useful for a good discount on spb shell, i think they are well within their expiry date

Thanks to Shaunuk from Dailymobile forum

"Hi All,
I have just purchased SPB Mobile Shell from Handango UK (http://www.handango.co.uk)
The Coupon 2525 got me %25 off so I payed 18.74 instead of 24.99

Don't know how long the offer is valid so if your thinking of going the SPB shell way this may help with the decision.

Surfing around I also found coupon SURVEY25 (%25 off) at http://www.mycoupons.com/coupons/handango.com valid to 7/10/10 which may work at http://www.handango.com for those working in dollars."

3D Graphics Accelerators are currently only in certain Samsung phones and the SE Vivaz and Satio. The 1st Nokia to support a 3D accelerator will be the N8.
