7650 :agrue: 3650
ok, when it comes to looks, all of us have different tastes. we cant argue about that, each of us is entitled to his own opinion, specially about the design of each phone.
how about the software? which is more stable? i have a friend with 7650 and using the latest firmware, got a lot of bugs like application close or something like that, needs to restart the phone like 10x a day! 3650 is it buggy?
I agree 😊 Anyway, the 3650 has also bugs. When i use the video recorder, sometimes, it cannot record or play coz it says that there is no enough memory to do the action! It's weird coz I have the 128mb MMC already and i'm not using the phone's memory to store videos or images... Just have to restart the phone and everything will work fine.

that could be because of low ram,when you restart the phone free's up ram...
right?:P
i hate it when i lend my phone to ppl for a second and they leave heaps of apps open!~
maybe... 😊 but i'm not sure about that... I don't usually open a lot of apps. I'll try to find out anyway 😊
It's the problem with less ram i have mentioned above. Either the ram on the 3650 is less or differently used. On the 7650 when you first boot the device it says it has about 3 megs of free ram (check it out using a program like apman or task manager). Also considering that 0.5 mb is used for the d drive (ramdrive) and another 0.5 for os threads we have a total of 4mb of ram. Unfortunately a friend of mind who has 3650 when he boot it , it has about 1 meg less free. Maybe the os uses more ram maybe nokia reduce the ram to lower the cost.
accdg to nokia:
3650 7650
application 3.2 MB 3.4 MB
user memory 4 MB + MMC 4 MB
execution memory 3.2 MB 4 MB
ooops...
differences in memory :
application memory
3650 = 3.2 MB
7650 = 4.0 MB
user memory
3650 = 4 MB + MMC
7650 = 4 MB
execution memory
3650 = 3.2 MB
7650 = 4 MB

Hi.. I dont think its a bug with 3650 because not everyone is experiencing that. I have not seen a notification or error that "there is no enough memory to do the action" with my 3650. I'm also using a Video Recorder (Hantro 3.04). I've tried opening lots of apps at the same time then open Video Recorder - no error here.
What other apps do you have? is there any app installed in your phone that handles the "switcher" of applications?
The ram of 3650 is more than enough to run 12 to 15 apps at the same time. Have a look at the attached screen shot..
There is 2.7MB Free Ram while 8 apps are running
I did not compressed anything since I have enough memory to run them :angel:
So far the only bug the I have seen with 3650 firmware v2.50 is assigning the right softkey to use Video Recorder will not launch Video Recorder but Sound Recorder.
Otherwise Phones' Internal Memory is never a problem.
:angel:
Some programs have problems running. Eg. Doom, trigenix, goboy. The solution is to reboot the device. Not a big problem though. But was it so expensive for nokia to put at least the same ram?
Nobody's experiencing my problem? I'm using the new software for the video recorder, the software which can record with sound! I don't have many apps in my phone 😊 I only have some games (like 4-5) and that's it! Maybe it's a software problem? Hmm... Why is it only me? 😞
But was it so expensive for nokia to put at least the same ram?
Got no idea why Nokia did not put the same RAM but I did not see this even a little problem with 3650 because I have not see memory error or notification for any application that I've run. Others like St@rr reported this memory error, I suspect it is not because of the 3.2MB of RAM on 3650. It could be a firmware issue or a 3rd party application that is handling the "switcher". Who knows? 😉
On first boot of 3650, Appman shows I have 2.90MB of RAM free.. If I launch File Manager.... Appman will show 2.80MB then 2.70..

If you don't mind tell us what application and games do you have there in your 3650... so that we can "trace" the culprit :angel:
Just noticed that the free memory dropped from 2.9 to 1.4 mb of ram after running the video recorder software from nokia...
The Nokia video recorder is using 376K once launched. If you will run Nokia Video recorder plus Appman alone... the memory should not dropped that huge.
Of course we have to consider the default applications that are using the RAM like:
Phone using 284K
Menu using 76K
Processes of the Task manager or Appman and other small files that are located in Z:\system\libs
In short.. the 1.5mb difference that you noticed is not being used alone by Nokia video recorder. Try killing the other apps and process (those safe to be killed), you'll notice that the free memory will change a lot 😉
I just killed some processes that I think safe to kill while running Nokia video recorder and Appman. From 2.7 to 1.68 then after killing some processes it goes up to 2.3 :angel:
All processes and threads were killed. The memory was drained after s select the record option. When i first started the video recorder it only consumed the count of memory you have mentioned above. But to record or play a video you need more than 500kb will be used plus the previous amount of memory. It's a very sensitive to memory program after all. Unfortunately even with all processes and threads killed in order to have the maximum possible free ram you have to reboot the device.
Actually it is not a recommended to kill those processes that are running but I did it just to test how much RAM will be release. I've tested it by noting down which processes are safe to kill without needing a reboot to use the a particular application/s.
On my first test of killing the processes, I have to reboot which made me note of the particulars processes is needed to run Nokia video recorder, appman or the phone itself (menu or phone). After noting down the important process (the ones that must not be killed)... using Video recorder with appman showed me a huge RAM was re-claimed :angel:
I'm not going to do this every time I will run or use a 3rd party application. I just did it to test and find out what processes can be safely remove and how much RAM will be re-claimed.
I'm done testing it and I conclude (LOL!) that 3.2MB of RAM in Nokia 3650 is more than enough to run lots of application at the same time and still it never give me an error or notification that "there is no enough memory to do the action" as reported by ST@RR.
I hope we can find out what gives ST@RR that error 😉
The Nokia 3650 phone is at this moment in time
simply superior to any other phone in the world!!!
I think that aas should change the rules of posting. Only registered users should be able to do it. Maybe this guest doesn't know what a p800 means, or better say doesn't know that there are also other non-nokia phones. By the way speaking about the threads killing notice that you can only kill threads created by 3rd party progs. If you try to kill a rom thread either the phone will restart or just the thread will be reloaded immediately(they will be on the top of the list). But threads like the one of psiloc's (eprofiles pro, world clock, screensaver) can be killed...
so generaly is ram giving alota trouble 2 ppl or jus some?

No comment on this 😉

That is very true. That is why I mentioned that it is not recommended to simply kill an application or processes if a user is not familiar or aware what is he killing. Anyone can kill them IF the reason is to test what will work or not and IF the user knows what is he killing.

Some
will it cuas trouble all the time if jus using the apps the phoen has and nothing else?
I don't think so but the ram of the x650 easily gets fragmented. They are many progs that can defragment/compress it but again the only way to have the max free ram possible is to reboot the device. So if you have any memory problems like that with your phone, usually a restart will fix them...
Hey!
You insulted my phone, you insulted me, my family and the whole of the showling temple... oh getting carried away there.
Taste??
The 3650 looks much better than 'the brick' 😊
Well i will comment a little. 😃
If you claim that the 3650 is techicaly superior to the 7650 then you must except the facts the the p800 is not only techicaly superior to the 3650 but you also might say it is a hardware giant when both are compared.
The only advantage that the 3650 has over that p800 is software wise,a lot more apps for series 60 then for UIQ(That will change over time i guess),and of course the price.
PS: I think that we should leave words like superior to MS/PocketPC forums 😃
Yeah - I'd agree with that, no argument there 😊
thou the next 12 symbian phones to be released this year will all be series 60 phones - sony went out on a limb with 7 and as far as I've heard from developers I've spoken too they are not supporting the P800 till there is a bigger user base..
Will
ok lets jus go over a few things.... jus basically can some1 state why is the p800 better we keep hearing tht it is and i believed it to.. cos it looks more techy but id actauly thought about it more and id like to knw why its more superior or more advanced...?
thnks
Well,there are lots of comparisons on the net,you should look it up.
One of the things that pop in to my mind right now is the CPU(200 MHZ or something) ,stereo output,touch screen etc etc.
I have triple pop, bounce, Card Deck, handy reversi for the games. I also have the remote sync, handy dates and the Jan-soft camera. But I got the problem even before i installed the Jan-soft camera so it isn't probably it 😊 These are all i have 😊 so, i don't understand why there's a problem... daniatt, i'm sure you've got lots of application installed on your phone right?
One of the things that pop in to my mind right now is the CPU(200 MHZ or something)
It has same processor running at same speed as 7650/3650. (104 MHz ARM)

The Jan-soft camera, triple pop, bounce and card deck are also installed here on my phone. I believe these games and app is not the cause since I dont see memory error.
I do not have Handy Reversi, Remote sync and handy dates... Give me few minutes to install these 3 applications (if there are trials available from the authors page) then let's see what will happen :angel:
I'll get back to you... am not a guinea pig.. just want to try the apps that you have to check whether it will cause a memory error.
