Sorry m8... The upgrade is just not possible through Orange.. Orange has not approved the upgrade with SE and I don't believe they every will... This upgrade is for OEM P900s only... Service contract phones must go to their respective carriers (ie Orange). However, the current Orange P900 firmware is still noted as the latest release.. This is common practice. The reason why Orange may not have approved it may be primarily through rollout and things of that nature.. But more importantly if SE were to allow all P900s (regardless of wether they were contract or not) to be upgradeable online right now they would liable for wiping carrier software clean from the phones.. Thus after flashing your phone would no longer carry Orange software, logo, or anything of that nature.. The P900 would be wiped cleaned of any previous carrier (ie Orange) software customization.. If you know a bit of how firmware flashing works then you'd understand that you no longer would have an Orange customized P900 if this online update was permitted... But you know Orange nor any other contract service carrier would never permitt such a thing..
Flash your P900 Firmware Now!!!

I agree, that would indeed be the preferable solution, but that would also mean the risk of people tampering/modifying the firmware, and I guess that is a risk they are not willing to take.
I don't think that is thier biggest concern. If anyone wants to tamper with the firmware he/she can easly download from the z: drive.I even know of people that have tried that 😎
Originally posted by BigfeatWhich makes sense really. If the operators didn't have any control over having their customisations wiped, there would be outrage. They would have a customer services nightmare from all the people finding this online updater by chance, using it, and losing all their settings, etc.

I think the confusion arises because on the P800 all the Orange customisation was done on the C: drive, and the phone itself (the ROM, A: drive) just had a generic SE firmware. Orange obviously got wise to people wiping their customisation and have implemented their branding in ROM (i.e. the startup/shutdown mp4s) and in the actual firmware itself.
I guess the only way Orange and other contract users can update their firmware is to take the phone to a SE service centre, get it flashed to any non-contract CDA version, then upgrade online. You'd certainly void your contract/warranty with Orange, etc by doing this - but as ever its a case of risk vs reward.
Finally guys I was able to upgrade! 😊
Here are the things that I noticed:
1.) If you choose to backup it just detects what latest backup you have on your installed backup and restore program. I thought it had its own.
2.) The whole thing took 25 mins for me, exluding downloading the software.
3.) when restoring, it will ask you to restore after 5 mins of updating your software or else your software will not upload correctly.
4.) I dont know what wrong with my restore program, you see, I store my backups on my external portable HD, now, I left that in the office, but I copied the latest backup to my laptop hoping to be able to just import it because I already tried this before. But now, it wont import the file. I dont really know why. Well, atleast this problem is not something I will have to wake up at 3am in the morning to fix 😉 Im glad the update is finally done, now I can sleep well 😊
5.) As far as I have notice, I jsut have a few new pics. Thats it.
The address book fix was actually on my old software already, I mean the one where when you read a message the exit it, it goes back to the top message. Before updating I already have this. I was even bothered by it at first bec sometimes I am so far down my message list and I want to read the next one but it takes me back to the top 😞
What else is new? Can someone post all their discoveries? Aside from the larger clock on screensaver..

Hi all
I sent an e-mail to se customer care centre about updating f/w when you have a contracted (ie on orange ect) p900 heres the reply :-
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Centre.
In regards to your question,i am afraid to tell you that at the moment are sony ericsson service centres do not support
this yet.If you require anymore infomation about this please call us on 08705 237 237.
So it appears theres nothing we can do for the moment although i am going to be contacting orange and see if something can be done.

Hey there, I have exactly the same problem here. I bought mine directly from Sony Ericsson. What I think is that we have a asian firmware and might need a bit more time before we can get our update. I have called SE and they are looking into this as we speak. I think all we have to do is wait buddy.
Thanks anthonyjcrocks, yeah thats what I am guessing too ....
if its not too much to ask .. can u pls let me know when SE gets back to u on this problem ?
Thanks so much =D
Yes I will get back to you. I am sure that there are more people then us having this problem. Will get back to you when I get more info on this.

i already upgrade it online but nothing waas change 😞\
already email the SE cust service, but no reply yet 😞
i have just recived my p900 the firmware is CDA162004/3 R2B01
i have checked the update service and recived this message-
Your device is not supported
CDA162004/3R2B01 is not supported or you have entered an incorrect number.
If the number is correct it means that your operator does not approve usage of the service for this device. If the number is incorrect, click Back and enter the right number.
does anyone know why this is ?
cheers

You are inputing it wrong. You dont have to input the R2B01. So for you just input this: 162004/3. Hope this helps.
At this point I don't think it matters if you entered the number correctly or not.. It seems as if you don't have an OEM P900 firmware to begin with.. It appears that you have a service carrier modified firmware and right now you can NOT update online. With that said, the updater would not be able to update you anyway.. Mentions of this phenomena is plastered all over this very thread..
Hey I also noticed that your CDA number has CDA*2004, Mine aonly has CDA*2003. But one time in my numberous update trys I accidently entered my CDA exactly as it should be except I entered 2004 instead but still it pushed through and didnt give me the "I dont have the correct CDA error message" Of course I noticed it right away and didnt go on with the update, I went back and changed it..
I think that everyone should watch out for this coz for those of you who have 2003 and instead entered 2004 accidentally im sure you will be able to push through but are downloading the wrong update..
No, the thing is when I was trying to go for my update lsat week I entered everything including the R2B01 and it gave me the error message and then after trying it without the R2B01 it worked and got through.
Once I get into the SE update website, it just hangs when it gets to the "checking the installation of SE update service..."
(and yes i have installed the service already)
thanks!!
Try installing Java Machine. Did you install the update software through the website or did you download it somewhere and installed it yourself?

That's one of two things:
A) Norton Anti-virus not allowing the Java app to load. (In this case just disable NAV)
B) You're using a proxy server and the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) isn't configured to use the proxy. (In this case just enter the proxy settings through the Java control panel)
Just as a point of information for those without broadband who may be worried, I use dial-up which tends to connect at 28.8 and I managed to run the firmware update without any trouble. Once the software was downloaded, the update itself took nearly two hours - but that's quicker than going to my nearest service center (about 100miles and I either have to fly or sail).
That's very good news Bassey.I think i can spare three ours on the net for an update.😊
Just been to SE update support. My firmware are
CXC??????? R1A05
CDA??????? R2B01
Your home page states that an updated version is out, howevere SE states that the current orginiser version is R1A05
Is this correct or can i update to R2B02??
Thanks
Dave
I am having the same problem as you guys. I have sent e-mails to SE support but have received NO reply from them. Any progress on your part? I really need the firmware updates. Whilst I love the P900 there are a fair number of bugs that should need to be addressed. Who can I contact at SE to help get the ball moving with us getting Software updates?? Thanks!
BTW - Here is my current Firmware information:
Phone CXC162022 R3A024
Bluetooth CXC12529 R5D
Organizer CXC162021 R1A05

It's not really a screen-saver. It's a power-save feature. Go to display settings in the control panel and click on the right arrow twice to get to power saving features. The options should be somethign like "Off/On/Clock".
Thanks Bassey,
Found it! So what is the difference between the old firmware and new firmware clocks?
Bigger font for the numbers in the clock/powersave mode.

Finally got a response from SEusa, here is the text, it doesn't look good for us 162004/14 owners:

Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.
Unfortunately since the phone has not been released in North America we
cant verify what the latest firmware should be or how or if an R3C006
is available. If you are traveling abroad soon perhaps a sonyericsson
service center overseas can perform an upgrade. Besides updating the
firmware, is there a specific functionality problem you are experiencing?
You may be able to get additional information by logging into
www.sonyericsson.com/developer

Going to SE USA for answers is something you should never have ventured into. From the time I purchased my P800 back in Jan 03 SE never had any up-to-date info on firmware revisions for months. I pretty much got the same answer you received until later that year. But guess what? I was successful at flashing my P800 to the latest firmware at their service center even though SE couldn't confirm they had the latest software. You are better off doing it yourself or find someone with the equipment that could do it for you. I was lucky enough to be able to flash my P900 online as soon as the update was available. I actually advised SE USA service techs that this update was available online and they somehow had NO knowledge of it. They actually asked me to give them the URL to their service center site. Weird huh?? Moreover the reps have had P900 dev phones to play around with for months.
