512MB Kingmax MMC. US$43 from newegg.com.
Grabbed a 1GB Kingmax MMC from newegg.com (cost around 74 USD), but it seems to not be working. When I have it installed, sometimes my phone locks up when ringing, and reboots right after. Sometimes it doesn't reboot, but just goes to a solid white lit-up screen that stays on till the battery is removed.
Problem was resolved when card was removed, or when original 32MB card was put back in.
Card seemingly works other than this tho, didn't need to format or anything (altho I did format after the problem occured to try and rectify it).
wowwwwwwwwwww :icon4:
I have read from another forum (I think it was at&t user forum, but couldn't find it now) that this is happening because your MP3 on the card is encoded with a high bit rate. Apparently the CPU in the 6620 is not powerful enough to handle that. If you reduce the bit rate it should work.

Bought this on eBay
Takiwa (or is it Samsung?) 256mb 28 eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3855155526
Worked without formatting, but formatted anyway. Everything ok so far.
Anyone tested the simpletech STI-MMC/128 or 512? how about the Viking MMC/128? Also, is it true that the 512 is slower than the 128?
Kingmax 1GB from newegg.com works fine in my Nokia 6620
Kingston 128Mb RM70 with lifetime warranty. Bought in MY.
Does the size/brand of the MMC affects the battery life?

i am about to buy the kingmax 1gb mmc, but just want to know that it works with 6600...anyone confirm?
Hi there 😊
I use Nokia 3650, have had a "NCP" branded 256 MB in there - worked excellent, quick starting apps, reliable. Price was 1.400 Baht (i live in Thailand), which is 35 us$.
Now since three days i use "Kingmax" 512 MB, price is 2.300 Baht (57,50 us$). It sucks! Very slow, apps need long to start (Photographer, Camcoder, Smartmovie!) and already corrupted yesterday, had to reformat (lucky i had a backup!). Can be formatted with card reader (cheapo 6-in-1), takes over an hour in phone. Also extremely slow in receiving data from PC (backing up card to PC = 5 minutes, playing backup back to card = 20 minutes!). The NCP was lightning-quick against this. I am about to get this crap exchanged with NCP 512 MB.
Regards.....

hmm..i havent heard such problems with kingmax mmc cards..maybe it has a problem with the 3650? people do say that bigger capacity cards will cause longer delays and lags so maybe thats part of using a bigger size card?
Hello again 😊
It's definitely a problem with the Kingmax. I went there yesterday afternoon and had it exchanged with a NCP 512 MB. This one works like charm! Prior to that, i found that, using the Kingmax, i was even unable to record video! Neither the original video recorder app, nor Camcoder (which took AGES to load), nor ETI camcorder would record, instead each of them crashed with "app closed". Previously recorded video clips played stuckering and slow.
After i exchanged cards it all works just like before with the NCP 256. So it's not to do with the size, but with the brand. I can only recommend "NCP" in terms of standard MMC's.
On a sideline, i also got a NCP RS-MMC with 256 MB for my boyfriend's 6260 yesterday. The 6260 is NOT able to format it! It will crash/hard freeze in attempting to format that card. But i think that's a fault of the 6260. The 6260's original card (32 MB) was not detected by the computer when put into the reader, but the NCP does work. So i formatted it in the reader (FAT file system) and put it in the 6260 - works fine. Also FASTER THAN THE ORIGINAL!!
Kind regards....

Hi,
I have just bought myself a PQI 1GBmmc, and a few seconds after I clicked on the confirm button I thought "shouldn't I have checked if it was compatible on this thread first?" :stupid:
I have just done a quick search and found reports of the 128mb and 256mb, is there anyone who has tried the 1gb? Is there any reason why it should behave any different?
Thanks.
extreMemory 512 MB: ok
formats out to 980 usable.
Thanks very much, that is a relief nowing that I didn't buy something useless.
:icon14:
dunno if this is the right forum for this but hey.
wanna get a 64mb mmc for ma nokia 6600 and was wondering when i get it what do i have to do to put all the system folders and category folders on it. Do i go into extras>memory and choose to format it or is there another way.
Hi there 😊
Yeah, you can do it that way. When doing that, the phone will put the required system folders on the card. If you do have a MMC card reader connected with your computer, i would advise you to first backup the old MMC (in Windows, you have to make sure that the relevant system files are copied as well, open any folder on your harddisk, go to "Tools" on top of it, click on "folder Options", there on "View" and in the dropdown menu uncheck "Do not show hidden files and folders" AND (important! Many forget this!) "Hide protected operating system files". If you do NOT do that last step, important files will not be backed up.
Then insert your MMC in the reader (the old one obviously), open it, click on "Edit" and then "Select all" (all visible folders/files will be marked), then right click any of them and select "copy". Then go to your desktop and right click on a empty place, select "Create new -> Folder", open that one and select "Paste". Then rest a minute, all the content of your pld MMC will be copied to that folder.
In the meantime you have formatted your new MMC in the phone. When copying is finished, insert your NEW MMC in the reader, and revert the procedure, i.e. copy ALL files from your new desktop folder into the new MMC. Click "OK" if it asks "file xxx exists, overwrite?" and when copying is done, you can use the new MMC just as the old one. The advantage is obviously that all apps that were installed in the old MMC as well as pictures, messages etc whatever was in there is still available to you and you don't need to re-install anything 😊
Question: why get a lousy small 64 MB? You will want to store mp3's and maybe even movies.... go get a decent at least 256 MB 😊 Believe me. I gott a 256 MB first and tought "will never get that full". Well i discovered SmartMovie and now, few weeks (!) later i got a 512 MB and already saving money for a 1 GB 😊
Kindest regards.....

yea was thinkin of a 128mb for 6 euros more but no mp3 or .ogg players work on my 6600 for some reason so no point gettin a much bigga 1,i just use it for downloading and emulation really and a 32mb lasted me a good while but might just go all out n press that extra button 😃
