LOCKED:TomTom patch for N95 available now? (warning: scam information in this thread)

LOL...
I feel like I have ventured into a primary school playground with some of the comments in this thread. Come on, please, this company is (supposedly, when the work experience kid pulls his finger out) going to produce something for nothing, don't vent a full "I hate GPSMidland, damn them to hell and beyond" type messages. Wait, and please post constructive comments here, not slag after slag after slag.
The whole thing reaks, yes, but still, the company director has come and expained their point, so at least give them a smidgin' of approval that they have attempted to get something that so many of you/us have wanted (ok, can someone pm me the link to TomTom Aussie maps Symbian S60 V3.... LOL get my drift).
Perhaps they did hack a particular TomTom binary, this is NOT ON (I really wish it was however), and realising that a law suit was likely to follow, decided that this was probably not the correct approach, so their work experience kid is now learning the ins & outs of the API and trying to accomodate an "tomtom friendly patch" that really just mimicks the bluetooth API (not an easy feat).
Wait, post constructive criticism about their dodgy premium rate phone line, and wait.
Don't slag off other members of this forum, and don't slag off GPSMidland (yet). They probably did manage to hack the binary (giving them a serious benifit of doubt here), but this is not really something that can be mass released without major legal consequences anyway.
Please take the "wait and see and be seriously doubtful" approach like I am currently, rather than the "f**k everyone and please give me my free s**t now immediately as I demand it, you f*ckers, why did you promise something then not deliver sc**bags" approach that will make this thread much more pleasant to read!
Regards

What did they say to slag AAS users off exactly?

dez_borders wrote:
They only put a message on their website saying not to call the telephone number about the patch after we threatened to report them to Offcom.

lol. Or because they were sick of people ringing about it?!

dez_borders wrote:
If the patch is so simple to write (as GPSM claim) they should have released it weeks ago.
Otherwise they should admit it does not exist and remove all reference to it from their website.

So they should either have released it 3 weeks ago, working or not, or should deny it's existence. No in-between. No fixing bugs and releasing it later.

dez_borders wrote:
P.S. Judging from your shoody use of oversized fonts and poor presentation in your posts, I am tempted to believe you are actually the GPScraplands web designer in disguise trying to anonymously defend the company's tattered image...

And me as well, because i'm not slating them?

The 'available now' sentance has now been removed from their site, what load of bull sh*&%^!

Yes, they've corrected their website, thats something to moan about isn't it 🙄

Are my eyes deceiving me, or is that some common sense I see floating into this thread? 😮

Hi Dez Borders

Another sad forum user ....yawn

So you now choose to have a go at my oversize fonts.

Really sad or are you another negative nerd.

Do you really think gpsmidlands care a damn about this forum or either tomtom for that matter.

They are too busy earning mega bucks.

Why dont you sort a solution which might work and then we can slag you off for a crap solution.

Its like paypal and all their bad publicity, making loads of dosh yet the bad press goes on & on & on ...........

They dont care mate so why dont you open a company like tomtom paypal or even gpsmidlands.

Make huge dollars then never bother even to read sad comments on forums like this.

ha ha !!!

Well said Pennas I was beginning to think its me.

These guys are so negative its bloody scary.

Anyone would think they are trying to sell the patch.

I cant help but feel most of you missed the point.

Its about some of use being lied to mainly. You can all go on about it being free, and how they dont owe us anything, but its wrong imo. Due to XDAman reverting again to childish insults, I feel theres little point debating this again. Ive no wish to exchange petty insults.

As for being negative, I suggest you post all the parts where you have helped others on this forum, instead of calling people names and insinuating they have no life.

GPS midlands earns megabucks? Obviously some people have knowlage we dont.

Hold on mate you were the one that started off with the personal stuff.

My argument is quite simple.

Gsmidlands took the time to post a thread(which I wouldn't have done)asking people not to email or call them regarding the patch but to keep an eye on the website amongst other things.

Since that thread was posted there have been frequent inferences that they are ripping people off with incoming calls telling lies etc.

Now do you honestly think tomtom or the likes of any established company would have even bothered with such a post, definitely not.

That is my point

you are getting bloody annoying, i think your MISSING most of the posters POINTS.

stop the brown nose and look, they said to people that they will release it and gave them dates/times and nothing! they had " available now" and nothing.

if you minus those points then what you are saying is valid but in this case it's NOT!

I think I'm with the wait and see crowd, calling GPSM up everyday and venting your spleen on here isn't going to speed things up. My gut feeling is that they have a patch but their survival instinct (i.e. lawsuits from TomTom B.V) has kicked in... and so f*** the rest.

But again, this raises the serious question of "where are all the Symbian developers???". If this was a PPC/WM5 or Palm OS device a patch would have emerged within weeks.

Can you stop lying please?

Quote where I started with the personal stuff. I'll quote your large text insults. I have *never* called GPS midlands anything either. Feel free to trawl though and post where I have.

And please have a look at the link I provided about 0871 numbers, then tell me about not making money from calls.

Please stop posting that Im insulting people, I am not. If you say that again, Im expecting evidence in the form of a quote, otherwise your words are dust.

calling GPSM up everyday and venting your spleen on here isn't going to speed things up.

I dont think anyone has. All thats happened so far is people have asked about the patch, and when it would be out. They gave them dates, and these have been gone.

You're doing it again 'lying'

Gpsmidlands 'lying'

Leave them alone to get on with it.

If they are as good as Tomtom Sony Ericsoon Nokia o2 vodaphone with their delayed launch dates maybe we should expect at least 15 promised launch dates and expect it around xmas time or maybe they're all just 'lying'😉

Yes and I do agree with original post they have probably said 'stuff it' and left it to us monkeys to sort.

I wouldn't blame them one bit.

My thoughts exactly with the first point and the second point is obvious.

These guys are few and far between. If they were bothered about this site there would have been a solution by now.

But obviously they just dont care like tomtom

Look kid, either post the evidence or get lost.

Comparing large corperations to GPSMidlands with hardware rather than software releases is laughable. And as I said, they are not in discussion here. Besides of which, just because they do it doesnt mean its acceptable!

'lying' means you havent told the truth. You said Ive been doing petty insults, which was a lie. Therefore my comment is warrented.

GPS midlands told me personally it will be ready last Tuesday. Lie. Granted, they could have had problems, but it was still a lie. Same situation with others, thus its a fact.

Now, I think Ive been very patient with you given all the shouted insults, insinuations about my life, and stating Ive been slagging people off when I havent (feel free to post evidence to the contrary).

Quite frankly either get some proof to back up your stuff or get lost. One more petty, uninformed post and your going on ignore as you have FA useful to say and I dont like arguing.

You seriously need to calm down!

What a good thread this is!!! - Its certainly brightened my day up at work going through it!!!

Can't wait if a patch does come out, but at the end of the day, it's free, so you can't whinge because nothing is released yet.

Keep up this thread though - it's miles better reading this than doing work!! 😊

I don't think what he's said is rubbish (and let's stick to the point rather than start a slanging match). I firmly believe if I was in their position, regardless of the existence of the patch, I would be very reluctant to advance it at all now.

At the same time, their initial intentions don't concern me one bit, if they intended to make a quick buck or a bit of cheap publicity - fair play - if they've done it dishonestly, it'll come back to haunt them. Again, I very much doubt they deployed these tactics but each to their own.

As I stated previously, if the patch comes, great; if it doesn't then you make your decision to await TT's solution or you move onto another software provider.

Whether it's other users of this forum, software developers or the giant hardware firms, blindly calling into question one another's integrity is of no use whatsoever.

I'm not going to go down this route anymore

You obviously know nothing whatsoever about software development and the work that goes into it.

I've spent enough time on this issue.

What I suggest to anyone is go try it, Its not not like sticking a piece of 'hardware' in a pc and waiting for the the cache to kick in.

Takes a bit more nounce than that.

All I'm saying is if you cant do it dont slag it

I can't believe all the trash talking everyone is giving GPSMidlands...

please remember it's a free patch, they are not selling anything....

When they are ready to release it for free to the public, then they will....do you think all the trash talk is gonna speed things up ?

Everybody is sceptical, that's fine....but GPSMidlands (Simon) didn't come in here and say "hey, look at what I'm selling !"

give them a break, hopefully in due time once everything is tested and apporved by ALL PARTIES involved, we just might see the patch...

go ahead, flame away, I'm ready for it..... 😎

"free patch". It doesn't exist

Well said.

I had a reply from them this morning and from what I can tell they seem a little bemused with this soap opera.

Obviously people have to work and I get the distinct impression they are getting a bit tired with the responses.

They have already emailed these 'anonomous' people from the site telling them they are welcome to visit the office in Colmore Row Birmingham and see the patch working for themselves and that includes me.

They also stated under no circumstances will anyone be leaving the office with a n95 pre-installed with the patch unless they get the relevant approvals from Nokia etc.

Shame it has come to this

Hi Monica,

They haven't email me with any such offer (would be a 500 mile round trip if they did) and I have been involved in this thread/emails/phone calls right from the start, 3+ weeks ago.

What's Nokia approval got to do with it? Initially the story I was given was that GPSM had to satisfy TomTom that the GPSM patch would not run on illegal copies of TT or bypass the licensing of TT6. Then it was corporate trials, and now it's Nokia that's required to approve the patch? What's next week's story?

Yes it's a shame it has come to this, but GPSM should never have put a large banner on their homepage stating the patch was 'available now' over 3 weeks ago, and they should not be telling people who called or emailed 'released tomorrow' etc repeatedly missing promised dates. And now it's constantly changing reasons for delaying the release.

My best guess is it will never be released and the final reason given will be that the AAS forum complaints about GPSM led them to decide it was too much hassle for too little reward. The patch will probably be 'released to corporate customers only' but will (strangely) never ever get leaked to the Internet, even though it exists and is in use all over corporate midlands.

I value and respect your posts/support in the AAS forums, Monica, but I fear your faith in GPSM is misguided. Please GPSM, prove me wrong! 😉

Dez

right... this thread is really doing my head in now, so much that i'm doing something i don't normally do... get involved!

GPS Midlands haven't come up with the goods, so move on! Go somewhere else!!!

If you go to a bar and don't get served, move on to the next one and don't go back there!!

Its easy...

Come on guys (and gals!)...

Move on! Or don't you realise you're giving GPS Midlands exactly what they want?? Free publicity... Remember the famous words? 'It doesn't matter whether they're talking good or bad about me, as long as theyre talking about me...'? Well thats exactly what you're doing...

Time to move on....

Mod, lock the thread?

In days gone by that saying was probably true, but anyone Googleing GPSMidlands will be seeing a lot of negative publicity and very little good.

I am not really into censorship. Mod, please don't start censoring threads.

Hi Dez,

Why doesn't someone introduce themselves to Gpsmidlands and instead of being 'undercover' give them your true username(I already have).

As I'm new to this forum no one will believe me if I trot along to their offices and witness the solution so its got to be one of you established guys.

They have invited me and they have also emailed various moderators(so they say) to substantiate and witness the solution.

My guess is the patch is there but given all the crap thats been spread they have decided to look after their own corporate clients.

I have no reason to disbelieve the offer as they offered it me.

Or maybe someone established on this forum doesn't want to eat humble pie after witnessing the solution.

Waiting.........................

The best for everyone would be if someone known and respected in AAS - e.g. RAFE was able to visit GPSM. I would have been more than happy to see the patch running then eat humble pie by publicly admitting I was wrong, however, 250 miles each way as too far for me.
