Hi Sonym
Great to get direct feedback from Sygic here - thanks.
One annoyance i've found (i think it's been mentioned but it's not on your list):
When entering an address - when you get to the house number (after selecting the street) the keypad defaults to ABC mode instead of 123 (maybe because you can also search by junctions as crossroads are displayed in the list below).
But I think in 90%+ of the cases you will be entering a number, so it would make sense to have it default to 123 mode instead.
Also the top of the screen reads "Number:"
So it clearly indicates that's what is expected.
That's not uncommon there's something else on the UI that asks for a number somewhere and defaults to text input.
I believe it is the POI warning distance. This also has the classic Tom Tom "feature" of decrementing my 1 each time you load it.

They definately should fix that - when asking for a number the input method should always default to 123 mode.
Wow - I was debating whether to get this software. Currently running Garmin but to be honest I've found it quite painful to use for many reasons! Was waiting for CoPilot but this one seems a lot "nicer" to use. I don't use GPS that much to be honest and I don't overly rely on it, so just need something that is easy to use and can get me from A to B.
If the support is this good AND if all users are given updates via the website, etc then I think this is the one for me! Esp at 40!
EDIT - Just wanted to add that before my N95 I used TomTom on a Windows device and I think this is what's made me "dissapointed" with Garmin. Not to mention it seems to "Miss junctions" at time, it'll tell me to turn when I'm ON the junction and doesn't warn me clearly before.
I imagine support is going to get absoloutly snowed under with the attention its getting (not to mention this thread is giving it), but if sonym keeps contributing then it will save a lot of support requests.
Currently for me, the postcode issue is the biggie. When thats fixed I'll be a lot happier.
@sonym
Thank you VERY much for taking the time to do this.
Regarding the extremely slow ferry issue:
Country: denmark
Route to/from:
Town center: Sjllands odde, havnebyen (or 5558'48.93"N, 1119'09.02"E)
Town center: rhus, rhus (or 5609'29.40"N, 1012'43.26"E)
This is an important ferry, binding the two largest cities of Denmark together. Fast speed catamaran doing the 40 miles trip in 70 minutes, or about 600 minutes according to McGuider 😊
I have noticed a weird bug. When you run a demo route, the first time it runs it is smooooth, real McGuider style! But the following demos are stuttering at many junctions. Also when using the app irl it sometimes stutters when approaching other roads.
I found this bug to be extremely annoying when I did the vidcap demos (I did one in Danish too, for a local board). If I made a single mistake and had to run the demo again, I would have to restart McGuider first. For some reason I forgot to tell you about it here... I wonder if Sygic is aware of this bug?
On another note, I am so very pleased to hear updates are coming up already. Can't praise you enough for that 😊 Especially being able to zoom in on the route right after calculation (bartmanekul #3) is a very nice fix.
(Excuse the largish screen shots)
The main problem with the E90 is the "command" button labels.
With the E90 the buttons are to the right hand side of the screen rather than beneath it.
The usual E90 label placement is like this:

However McGuider is still using the bottom of the screen

It gets even more confusing on the Browse Route Images screen as non of the labels line up with the buttons since the OK button is below the bottom right corner of the screen rather than the middle.

Not sure what can be done on this screen to help the E90 though without changing to using the cursor keys to switch between junctions rather than the command buttons.
Regarding the 'turn slightly...' issue:
This is dead center of the second largest city in Denmark, so the map info provided by TeleAtlas should be 100% reliable.
As you can see on Google Earth, there's a stop light and four different directions. Either you go left or you don't, there is no 'slightly' left...
Navigate from: 5609'11.48"N, 1012'13.25"E
to: 5609'09.65"N, 1012'06.18"E

The quote "the card that turns your mobile phone into a GPS" on their hompage irritates me straight away! It does no such thing, it just uses the built in GPS.
The asterisk goes on to say this but would I get away with a advertising a program saying "Using it will make you rich"*
*In this context Rich means you will save a few seconds

I have checked this junctions. And result is, that in map data the angle is 35 degrees. And as I have told
slightly left is between 0 and 40 degrees.
Left is between 40 - 130
Sharp left 130 - 170
Uturn 170 - 180
It is not so straightforward but for this it is enough.
Hehe. That's actually rather funny 😊 But thanks for the reply. What we really need is an option to turn this thing off. It can be very confusing, because it sounds more like a lane changing thing than an actual turn, which it still is. Can it be done?

I afraid that this is not possible. Maybe we will release new voices in future, or this can be solved with tts. But for now it is not available for symbian.
I think you have to bite the bullet on that one, as fiddling with that is probably going to break a lot of other stuff.
I reckon some of it is down to teleatlas mapping, so not much can be done until thats sorted.
Im hoping sonym will be back to provide a link to where the updates will be.
To be honest do you need "Slightly left" at all?
Its a left turn if you have to take a turning that branches off to the left regardless if its a 10degree or a 90 degree bend.
Traditionally sharp has been used in the past for +100 degree bends but I don't see the point in distinguishing between left and slightly left unless your a rally driver and are planning on taking bends as fast as possible.

It will be on www.sygic.com or www.mcguider.com

Thanks, your time on this is appriciated (just watch the page views going up).
Nice to hear you agree, Unplugged. 'Slightly' is of no use and I have never heard it on any other GPS app. It's not a deal breaker, though, it's just kinda silly.
1. I have even taken a look at the voices folder to see if I could replace the 'slightly left/slightly right' sound clips with plain left/right, but it's not something that can be access without work. Any easy way to do this?
2. I haven't had the chance to test the program as much as I would have liked, but I am told recalculation is extremely slow?
3. Does Sygic plan on providing new color schemes? A TomTom scheme would be really cool and is requested by quite a few users.
4. Any thought on why McGuider suddenly starts studdering/pausing at junctions?
Oh, and sonym, I hope your are doing this during work hours and getting paid for it, because this really is helping the application immensely, also on the PR front.
sbc wrote:Nice to hear you agree, Unplugged. 'Slightly' is of no use and I have never heard it on any other GPS app. It's not a deal breaker, though, it's just kinda silly.
I have heard it on plenty! Dont ask which ones though, cos I have forgot, and get mixed up anyway when Im using at least 2 different ones a day.
Im going to be watching both websites like a hawk now, as I really need that update for my postcode problem.
Unfortunatly, Sygic website says nothing about updates, and the Mcguider one says I should go to teleatlas site for software updates. Which says nothing at all about any updates for any software.
So Im wondering where the updates will appear when done 😉
Hehe. We got a new thing to watch! Just like the Nokia firmware update site 😊
Is it easy to transfer to mass memory of N95 8GB from the 2GB ?
b/c i like the sound of this ever improving gps app
also do you know where i can buy it online using PAYPAL pls sonym ?

this is probably the map issue. In map data, there is speed 7Km/h for ferry road.

Actually, yes, I am from Sygic. Regarding your mails. Your mails have been lost in huge quantum of mails we receive every day. Could you please resend these mails again, or put the questions here. I will try to answer.
Hello Sonym,
After testing the actual versions of Sygic/McGuider (Symbian / N95) I have some additional suggestions of improvements for future releases / updates:
It should be really customizable if or if not the initial window with the safety warning should appear. I think that it doesn't make sens to agree on this every time you start the application. A unique warning on first time use should be enough. Actually I see now way to suppress it. (Also the additional confirmation on the leaving screen should be customizable)
Introducing an address using cities or streets which have been used previously (by selecting them via up/down) leads to wait times of up to 20 seconds before you can introduce the next data. If you instead introduce the city or street character by character you are faster. This seems to be a bug.
Also after introducing the street number the application deletes the number before skipping to the screen with the result. Although this is only a visual effect, but all over for new user will keep with the doubt if you ignore the street number on the calculated route.
Im really struggling with the introduction of POIs. I miss a full scan search like in Route66. Sometimes I dont really know the category of the POI, I just only know the name. Also in many cases I dont know to which city the POI belongs to. So I prefer to have an alternative possibility to introduce only the name or fragment and the search goes directly through the whole (indexed) database of POIs (independently from the actual distant / this only slows down the time till the display of the result). After confirming the distant is calculated anyway. (actually its so slow to search POIs and impossible if they are more then x KM away).
Regards

•Well, you can see the same approach in many other navsat systems.
( Maybe it could be removed via settings.ini file, but I am not sure )
• this could be a bug, i will write it down to my notes
•Well, this is not Route66, and we dont have freetext search. But you can search Any poi category within City or Area (in browse map->options->find->poi->any category this will search any in radius 30km or 60km, I am not sure)
I'm beginning to wish I'd taken the plunge and not prevaricated before my 10 off voucher from Expansy expired.
By the sound of it, it just might be worth living with the "locked to card" issue.
Sonym - having said that, if you allow it to be transferred to a massive memory card, I guarantee that I'll buy it tomorrow.

You can make one copy. As I know. But then you have to contact Teleatlas for new license code.

Thanks for your quick reply,
It seems to be that for other operational systems you can execute Sygic without Safety warning, (C:\TRAFFIC7\Drive.exe " " -r800x600 -p50x10 -no safety). This does not work for Symbian. I think that including this possibility at least in settings.ini would be great.
Regarding the POIs issue I raised up above, if you are living in a big city like London, Paris, Madrid, a search with Any poi category is not feasible. (At least if you are sitting in a car and you are waiting for the result in order to start your engine for takeoff; - doing so a delay of several minutes and the protest of your wife is guaranteed)
sonym wrote:You can make one copy. As I know. But then you have to contact Teleatlas for new license code.
This is a potential deal maker/breaker for me also.
If I buy it, then transfer to my 8GB SD card, i need to contact Sygic, correct ?
If so, that's fine. But what if I then get a 16GB card (when they come out) ? Can I do another transfer to the 16GB card in, say, 8 months time ? Or do I get just one chance and that's it ?
you only get to make 1 copy by the sounds of it which is no good b'c when the N96 comes out i'd have to buy again b/c i would'nt beable to transfer again of my N95-2(8GB)
