Useful helps : Full phone formatting a 6600!
Hi everybody,
I'm writing here for the first time, because yesterday I occured the similar situation with my n6600. I installed some screensaver (people say it's Psiloc's) that can show big clocks, analog, digital, explosion animations, starfield, spotlight, etc. After that, I turned off my mobile phone and turned it on, but when it comes to write in the PIN number, it says "Ap. closed Phone", you can only press "OK", and I did. After that it says something like "Phone initiation failed. Contact your vendor.".
Now, here you say that I do a full backup on memory card or on PC, but how do I do it when I can't even turn on the phone? Since I connect it to my PC via Bluetooth, bluetooth connection won't work unless you turn your phone on, and I can't do that, so there's no possibility of backup. I have one more problem, and that is that my official "phone mechanic" is 400km's away from here so it looks like I'll have to do the hard format and forget the losses of pictures, some contacts, sounds and themes I installed in it...
So, if anyone got a solution how to do a backup of a dead phone, let me know 😊
Thanks
Hey the reason people backup is incase of situations like yours , sorry to be stating the obvious , dont think theres much hope for the memory
Hi I have got a Orange 6600 from my brother but I am using it with a different network. All the Orang stuff is taking a lot of space. I cant even delete it coz some of the stuff are in the ROM which got installed after switching on the phone 4 the 1st time with the Orange provided MMC. Will it be removed if I do a formatting ?
Things in ROM will not be affected by formatting the phone (ROM = Read Only Memory). ROM can be overwritten only by the reflashing process.
My 6600 started to spell was 9as, obviously obviousky, so I had it replaced, first backing it up to the memory card.
New phone, restore backup.
No problems. Until I switched it off and on, got a message Application Startup failed, and the menu key would no longer work (although the righthand key did work).
At some point I saw a corrupt memory card message.
Anyway, I did a Deep Reset (*#7370#), restored from memory card, formatted memory card, backed up to memory card, switched on and off, and had the same problem.
Now I have just done a Normal Reset (*#7780#) : Restores ini files from rom but preserves user data (photos, 3rd party apps etc).
I didn't need to restore from memory card, but my right hand key, which was set to the calendar, is now GoTo.
But for the first time, I can now switch my phone off and back on without an error message or losing the menu key.

Do i sense a jimmy-floyd replacement.
Maybe he is right..
You must have heard that you can recover data that are deleted (even deleted from the recycle bin). I just read this:
Hard-Disk Risk
Maybe its the same as formatting on the phone.
This URL is about data recovery on memory sticks:

Even if formating the phone is same as formating a PC HDD(which is not)are there any tools for data recovery on ROM/RAM chip that work on Symbian OS?

I have installed qoffice and it crashed my 6600 and i had to figure out a new method to format my memory card and here is it how to do that....1) Switch off your phone.
2) Remove the back cover and remove the memory card and make sure that you don't pmove back the clip which locks the memory card. Push it fully to the simcard side.
3) Putback the battery and switch on the phone but don't put the back cover of the phone. After the phone is fully switched on, go to the "Extras" folder and keep the focus on the "Memory" application so that you can start the application with one click.
4) Now keep the phone on a flat surface and slowly lisf the back side of the battery(the side which don't have the connectors). Make sure that the battery connnectors are touching so that phone will not switch off.
5) Now insert the memory card the the gap between the battery and phone. Don't worry about puting back the memory card lock.
6) Press the battery down so that it will press the memory card in the correct place. Now you have a phone with memory card installed.
7) Start the "Memory" application to format it.
8) Thats it!! Reinstall all your programs and Enjoy 😊Good luck,

Hi,
Does anybody know if the formatting deletes the Opera licence key? If it does, is there anyway to prevent this from happening? Is it enough if you have the original Opera browser installed in MMC and launch it from there after the formatting?
Thanks.

I'm new to all this so can someone please tell me what the difference is between a "deep reset" and a "normal reset"?
What will be deleted on each (user and operator settings? contacts? calendar? SMS?) From the above it sounds like the normal reset doesn't actually delete any of your data. But does it delete your operator settings?
Any clarifications would be really useful.
Thanks, wend

With the "deep reset" it will definitely erase all your settings, inc operator settings and all that is stored on the phone memory such contacts, calendars, messages etc, but not the data on the MMC. I have not tried the "normal reset" though, so I'm not sure if it deletes the operator settings, so if you want to try it, you may want to back-up your phone memory first thru PC suite or using the Phone memory back-up option, you can always restore this if it gets deleted.
Cheers.
how long do I have to keep prssing these three buttons. I'm pressing them for a minute but nothing is on the screen.
Does this work with Nokia 3650 too?????
by the way 6600usertr , you're supp. to hold the three buttons and then switch on the phone.
rohit
It doesn't work with the 3650,it works only on Series 60 2.x devices(6600,7610 etc etc). You will have to format your 3650 the old fashioned way - *#7370# .Search the forum
So if the Phone is off then there is no way to format.
i mean to say some time my 6600 does not start and i put it off and then format.
it works proper but i can't use this with 3650 or 3660
hey newforce..
thx for the green key, 3 and * code.. it works..!
thx again...
tc..
Now how do i format a phone which is mmc locked.
The three key worked for the phone but not for the mmc .
Any suggestions??????
You can format/access the MMC only if you remember the lock code. If you don't have the lock code & there is important information, you can try a data recovery service (like IBAS: http://www.ibas.com/). If you're not willing to pay (probably many, many times more than the actual card itself is worth), buy a new card and throw the old one away.
Dear all,
I got my Nokia 6600 recently, whenever I receive a call and the caller ask for someone's number from my phone book, I can't seem to make out the text as its too small and I am quite short sighted. Is there a software or command in the phone to enlarge the font size to bold it or at least make it bigger? Please help...very the short sighted.

Hi every1,
When i turn on my nokia 6600, the startup sound fades off or kind of gets cut off halfway thru. I have the firmware version 4.09.1. Also will formatting using either of the 2 methods discussed above solve this problem? Is the firmware upgrade to the latest v5.27 suggested? any opinions? Can it correct this problem?

Dear users... I ve been watching all the threads and replies in the forum.. but I havent come to a conclusion really..
I ve been experiencing some problems with my phone.. and I m thinking of Hard formating.. The 3 key thing..... However, I ve seen replies stating that hard formatting reduces the phones virtual memory.. hard formatting is unhealthy for the phone etc.....
Can someone explain the costs and the benefits of formating?
Hard Formating,Hard Reset,Full Format etc etc will not damage your phone. It will return the device to its factory defaults.
Thanx, I formated my phone and all my contacts lost, is there any way to recover it?
