Useful helps : Full phone formatting a 6600!

204 replies · 427,264 views · Started 07 November 2003

If i format the phone the sim will just pick up and work where it left off, but it will remove all the "orange" software they preload like orange plus and their wap/gprs links etc.

Just wanna make sure it wont kill the phone if i do this, would be quite handy as ive filled it up with so much stuff i cant delete now.

i just tried to format my 6600 using *#7370#.............my fone went off and when i tried to turn it back on the nokia sign stayed there and the fone wouldnt work!!!

i managed to screw up my 6630 and tried this code as a last resort; worked like charm.

although: it took only about ~30seconds and it didn't display any 'formatting/format' text. the screen was white for a while and then it just asked my PIN as usual (and was, indeed, at factory settings).

Can anyone confirm what is backed up to the mm card when you do the backup operation, and what other files I should backup using something like fexplorer to the mmc?
I cannot backup with PC Suite and I was hoping a reset might help, but I would like to save my contacts and calendar, which go to the mmc, but also my bookmarks, POP account settings and anything else like that.
Thanks.

hi guys,

i need to ask u guys that if I format my nokia 6600 completely by the procedure you told, will I be able to use it or do I've to reinstall the OS again to use it normally or formatting just resets the default factory settings.

The OS is set into a chip that is not erased using this technique, all that is lost is user written details, data and settings, so it will be just like you have taken the phone out of the box you bought it in 😊

Hi.. after a long try and catch.. resume:

*#7370# is a soft or whatever, restore factory settings but NOT erase contacts or any software on memory phone or mmc.
the thing with 3 keys, DO a FULL format on memory phone and restore the phone
factory settings..
Try to do this and see for yourself.. install jjlkeylock or f-secure antivirus for e.g, and try to do *#7370# they remaning on the phone memory. only with 3 key it will be deleted.

Hi guys again,
I need to know where can I get mp3 player for nokia 6600. Is there any RADIO available for 6600 or not.

Moreover, when I receive something from bluetooth, it comes as a message n saved in INBOX n then can be saved in My FOLDERS but how do I use the files as ringtones or transfer them to my GALLERY folders.

Moreover, the software version I have for 6600 is 3.49.2. Is there any other updated software for this mobile or not.

Thanks

I think you will hve to understand how to use the forums first. This post has nothing to do with the topic heading, and all the answers can be found by searching the stored topics do far.

Becareful little newbie, you don't want to be banned by a moderater 😎

Hi

Whenever i try to start the phone i get a white screen and the phone turns off after a few seconds. I tried to format the phone by holding those 3 keys but i cant get the formatting screen. What should i do?

How long have you had the phone?
Are you sure that you are holding the power button long enough? I have found that you can lightly or quickly press the button and the light comes on but it doesn't power up. You need to hold it down for a second or two.
(or aleast with mine you do 🙄 )

I have the phone about a month. I took it to service and they told me that a virus infected my phone and did something with my memory :con? - i'm not sure what and the phone works - all the things i had were there. i'm not sure it was a virus - i didn't install anything for days and i have an antivirus installed and it didn't report anything...

Is full format code *#7370# good for Nokia 6260 too? Or is it only for 6600? Thanks for the advise!

i tried the green, 3, * buttons with my 6670, but nothing happend. what might be the problem??

If you cant turn your phone on then its probably a virus. Take it to service and have them flash your memory

dear friend
as i have purchased a nokia mobile 3650 it has hanging problem so i want to reset or format my mobile as company default how can i do if u have information about it please give it to me as i have found some code from net is *#7370# by this we can format mobile in a site defined but after enter this code it it asks for password. what kind of password it want i dont know if another way please tell me i will be thank for u

The "password" is the phone's lock/security code. By default that code is 12345 (and, by the way, it is printed in the phone's User's Guide).

If you have changed and forgotten it, then you have to take the phone to your nearest authorized Nokia service center (if you need to do things that requires you to know the lock code).

Procedure:
1.press and hold green key, * star key, no.3 at same time, then press power off key and power on again.
2.release your finger when "formatting" on screen.
3.after format, "nokia" word on screen.
4.checking phone, phone is reseted to factory default.

Formatting will get rid of everything on the phone including this 'virus', so yes it will help. Just don't restore anything form a backup afterwards though.

hi all.

just to let u all know from near Sydney Australia, after reading all these posts I was able to fix my software crashed phone - 6600 - with the -green-*-3- action. It was not turning on or turning on and freezing, and showing balnk screen or switching off. I had no other 3rd party programs on it...

I took out battery first, reinserted, held the green, * and 3 keys whilst turning on until got 'formatting' message with scrolling bar across screen as it formatted. lost all info and settings, but no problem getting to my serv provider here in australia (Telstra telcom). phone works fine, will back up ph memmory to card memory more often. I haven't tried other boots commands, I figure if it works, it's all good. sems to me that so many others are having problems after installing 3rd party software ... maybe that's the lesson.
I was looking at installing the eggtimer to enlarge the clock show on the front, but I don't know if I will bother now.... maybe not worth the risk. yep, phone was 2 weeks out of warranty... Nokia wanted min $50 aus to probably $120-140... saved heaps. Thanks Ghostdog and others...
anyway, i don't use bluetooth, do not connect my phone to pc and only use a mem card reader to copy pics n stuff.
for anyone intending to buy one, the thing I hated was that the software to handle pics and movies was only a trial version, and wouldn't handle the .3pg type of movies it made anyway, and it took a bit of hunting on the net to find a software that would, and can't convert it into other formats yet, and friends can't all read these formats either.
the other thing was that it has this huge screen and displays the time/date so small - what a waste. other than that, it works for what i wanted, which is to take pics on site for customers and my files and to make video and to use voice recorder...

again thanks for all helping.

If I format will it get rid of the t mobile headers logos and crapware they put on the phone?

I want to get rid of it I can't find anyone to help me.

The phone is unlocked and I dont even use t mobile.

I read all your post and you we're exceptionally brilliant!I cant help but marvel with your intelligence. I guess you also do symbian programming?

I'd just like to enquire if there is a software that converts windows based programs to symbian....such as medical dictionary to be installed in Nokia 6600 in symbian platform?

thanks a lot!

I always believe in you.

Hello Symbyotic,
I see you are new to the forums, welcome.
I don't want to step on Ghostdogs toes but I may be able to answer your question.
Symbian is a totally different operating system to windows, so programs can not be converted they need to be completely re-written to take into account the smaller memory, user interface and many other things, so there is not a program that will convert them.
If you mean convert databases or text, then there are some available, but also some applications like ebook readers and such will take PC formatted data.
If you are looking for a medical dictionary try the Handango Website which sells many programs that you may find interesting, I have chosen a page for you to look at here.

As a last point, if you want to ask a question that has nothing to do with topic you are looking at, start a new one, people will more likely look at it rather than it being buried in a topic that has no relavance.

I hope that helped.
Take care :icon14:
