bartmanekul wrote:Just had a thought.Ive read in many places that the GPS on the N95 is a bit flaky, so how will tomtom perform with the N95?
I'm hoping there will be an option to choose either Internal or Bluetooth, rather than it switching to just using the internal GPS.
I don't have my own car, so often hire them. Some of them have the heated front windscreen which makes it hard for GPS to work. So on these cars I put the bluetooth GPS unit on the parcel shelf.
Well I assume that this patch - which I have increasing doubts as to it existing - will be able to turn off and on. At the very least, you should probably be able to uninstall it. Though obviously, thats not ideal.
I note while the webby has "We are amending the source code and the new solution will be available shortly!! etc etc"
It also still has "Nokia N95 Patch to Use Internal Receiver with TomTom Software
Available Now !!!"
further down the page in small text. 🙄

Also, does the latest version of tomtom support AGPS?
The way i understand it is that software does not require any support for aGPS, it does not work at that level. Tomtom does not need to know aGPS exists.
aGPS just helps the GPS chipset get a faster lock, independently from the software such as TomTom. The software (tomtom) just gets fed data, it does not mater how that data was calculated, just as long at the software can connect to the device and get the in a format it expects. In other words, if aGPS is working, then it will benefit all GPS programs.
Hmmm.
On the route66 software, you have to choose if you want it or not. But then again, the software Im on about is built into the phone. An N95 user with route66 would be able to say more. For example, if the option to turn off AGPS is in the route66 software or on the phone menu.
The recent firmware upgrade for the N95 making use of the AGPS makes me think your right, although it could just add the option for software to use it.
I believe the A-GPS of the N95 is activated whenever communication with the (virtual) GPS port is started. I have cleared my datalog before opening and closing a GPS program several times, and the result is always the same: the first time a GPS program is opened, the famous 6-7KB of data is received. The following times nothing happens, but after a restart of the N95, the first connection to the port again triggers the download of A-GPS data.
That would also explain why R66 7.3.468 is able to use A-GPS data, even though it is much older then the A-GPS option of the N95.

AGPS has to be activated in settings/general/positioning/positioning methods.
After that it's a phone thing and not software dependent!
Danielem wrote:Any news?
Nope, not expecting any till Monday, which was what one forum member was told when he/she rang them.
On another note, I wouldnt think it unfair if they asked you sign up for their newsletter to get the patch. Course, I cant think it would take long to get around the net anyway.
Im going to wait till Thursday anyway, then I'll give up and get copilot. Luckily I shouldnt need it till then.
Im betting it wont be out Monday 😉

Absolutely. The port is controlled by the operating system and its drivers, not by some installed software.

Phone menu; in the R66-application, there's no option to choose, which GPS you'll use: internal, external, A-GPS
R66 is working perfectly on my N95

Is there any patch available?
well its monday ... no patch yet
I reckon tomorrow.
And it will also support the 6110 navigator, and E90 😉
And yes, AGPS is the phone itself, you lot were right. The option to turn it off in the route66 on my phone appears to be just a link to the phone settings.
On an annoying note, I had my first crash yesterday 😞
Got a message and it just locked up. I assume it might have something to do with it being on for over a week.

Really? tomorrow the patch should be available?
I really hope so...
Possibly. Although they are in no rush, and cant say I blame them. They have been called 'creepy' for no reason, and they are releasing this for the good of others, no other reason. They could in fact charge for it, but realise it would just appear on ebay etc.
So, be patient people! And trust me, I want it more than any of you lot do!
lol......oh no you don't.
I only went for the N95 initially because I thought TomTom would run using it's internal GPS.
I have been waiting a LONG time for this !!
😊
Wanna bet? I have been wanting a GPS in one phone for ages, and even bought a 6110 navigator from ebay (the N95 has too much I dont need and not so good battery life) before it was out.
Sadly, as I have said previously, route66 (the legal, upto date version bundled with the 6110) is so damned bad its worthless to me.
I was even going to buy copilot cos it works, but tomtom I have used and trust (and have a legal version!) of.
Anyways, not liking all of this stuff on the forum, I rang them up. I also beleive a patch is coming out. I also understand their frustration at people needlessly slagging them off when they have never even dealt with them.
No slagging off from me.....and I applaud and appreciate their efforts.
Yeah....I have Route 66 and its pants.....I cant comment on Copilot....not used it.
So...in the meantime I'm holding my breath for the patch.....and turning blue !!
hmmm its monday and no patch yet....i think we will be waiting till tomtom do the patch
Wondering what "New solution will be available shortly!!" means for gpsmidlands? In my terms shortly is within one or two days - not one or two weeks!
And please guys! Don't try to make gpsmidlands as a saint! They only do this (if they manage to release) in business purposes... Why else run a business?
Thier business tactics worked on me
If my tomtom breaks, i know who to send it to, they see quite cheap.
As for the n95 patch,
Where is the original one? surely that would be all over the net by now?
I'm not saying they wont or will release the patch.
But a lot of businesses make bold claims, so i'll reserve judgement until people have confirmed its working
If they dont release anything, then the company would have had massive expsoure from the N95 community..... good marketing gimic either way.
<sigh>
Another day....another disappointment....still no patch.
😞
This firm could have made this to something positive. But instead they appear unserious when they don't respond to mails, and only wan't us to call there expensive support number.
I would not have sent my broken tomtom to get it fixed at this firm, why? Because I'll bet they would have told me I will get it back "shortly":icon13:
Let's make this thread dead!
A gave these people a chance, even defended them when slagged off.
But now the are just looking shoddy. I highly doubt we will be seeing a patch in the near future now. Continuously misleading people is dubious indeed.

Take note GPSmidlands, this thread be be around for a long time on the net and it pretty high up googles results with all the references to your site www.gpsmidlands.co.uk
has anyone got a link for the uk maps for r66? its giving me a certificate error and the uk maps ive installed do not work 😞
Maybe that question would be better asked in the Route 66 thread ?
Well, I still think they have done one. Having actually spoken to the guy, he made a lot of very good points, and your all forgetting, Tuesday isnt over yet. Besides, he said to give him a ring today about it, but I'll do it tomorrow.

Well but....
When the patch will be released?Today?Max Tomorrow?Never?
Thank you
Someone ask when.....I think never...I'm thinking is a fake...
