LOCKED:TomTom patch for N95 available now? (warning: scam information in this thread)
loke.nor wrote:Wondering what "New solution will be available shortly!!" means for gpsmidlands? In my terms shortly is within one or two days - not one or two weeks! And please guys! Don't try to make gpsmidlands as a saint! They only do this (if they manage to release) in business purposes... Why else run a business?
I am one of the enthusiastic posters from a week ago who helped to advertise this patch, and I now publicly apologise as I no longer believe it exists.
I have now decided GPS Midlands are simply trying to make revenue from folk phoning their 0871 (10p/min) Customer Support line to ask about the patch.
I think if the patch isn't released in by Nect Monday we should all write to Trading Standards asking them to (a) refund any CS Telephone line fees and (b) complain about misleading advertising on their website.
P.S. If the patch is released by Monday I will publicly apologise to GPS-M in this thread...

Next monday ?? omg... this way you can check evey next monday and still beleive ? 😊
Well I was told perhaps today, and if not to ring him. So I shall tomorrow, and ask, as otherwise Im going to get copilot (knowing my luck tomtom will release it shortly after).
I admit i didnt realise it was a 10p a min line, but when I called and it was busy, and he rang me back.
Anyways, I'll ring up tomorrow and find out whats going on, although they are reading this forum anyway.
Yep, they phoned me back also after i left a message. Fake or not, i highly doubt it's a scam to make money on the phone calls.
Ok,we know the patch is announced "free of charge" but I find not serious let the word "shortly" in the main page and not explain the meaning of "shortly".For you, maybe, waiting two weeks is a short time? For me no....They know there are many people who are waiting for a way that allow to work the internal Gps and Tomtom. It's normal we're all in hurry but a serious site MUST tell us the truth...Exists this patch or not? If doesn't,ok it has been a joke or a fake ...it's the same... but we are all tired of your silence !
IMHO

If their Sales line was not a semi-premium rate number I would still be inclined to believe the patch is real.
As they are making a priofit from every phone call about the patch, I am no longer holding my breath...

I believe Mr Steve Litchfield has skills in this department 😉

Picture it like this:
Their pimply 16year old work experience hacker kid says "hey, I know someone that can hack applications, and they told me they have managed to re-direct the Tom-Tom requests to the internal GPS, I can do this too with a bit of time", the not so techo manager goes "wow, this will be great for us" and then the webpage saying "shortly" is born.
LOL.

Thats a good idea. Wouldnt it be good if this web site could organise a....'fund' for the first person to make a working patch?
Basically, just a paypal option and a running total of current donations.
Not beyond the realms of possibility.
A few provisios:
It would have to be free for all.
It would have to be made available.
And other conditions people can think of.

i think me too
Hmmmm.
Just rung them, and got that 'your first in line, and will be connected shortly...' followed by music, and the same message on loop.
The same as what I got last time.
I hung up after hearing it 3 times, thinking the same thing I did last time.
I rang again, 10 mins later and exactly the same. First in line, and will be connected shortly.
Now my patience is at an end. Its all too suspect. Lets have the facts shall we?
I have personally been told the patch was up there previously, but had to be taken down due to the licensing issues.
I was told it would be available Tuesday (yesterday). Another forum member was told Monday (2 days past).
I have been told they were offered £2000 for it, but are not accepting it.
I have been told they could sell it, but are not because they cant be bothered.
A guy joins the forum, and on his first post says that he popped in and saw it working. I was later told by the guy I rang that this bloke had it installed on his N95.
The website not only has the 'available soon' thing up in big, bold letters but it also still has the 'N95 tomtom patch available now!' lettering much smaller further down the page. Why this hasnt been removed I dont know, its a very trival matter to update the webpage.
If it wasnt for the stupid queue system - which basically holds you on the line - and 10p per min, Id still beleive them. But fact is, theres too much against it all.
Ive defended them enough, and I'll apologise if Im wrong, but I *will* be contacting trading standards and whomever else if Ive been blatently lied too.
I am now going to order a copy of copilot, cos I need a satnav and could have done without this pissing about.
And GPS midlands, if your reading this, then you had best sort something out. Even if you are doing it for free, give a solid date cos people are tired of being messed about and needlessly ringing your dodgy phone system.
Coincidence only goes so far when I have rung it 3 times, each being the first in the queue but never getting to talk to a real person.
Oh and btw, if it turns out you have been lying to me, this will be reflected in a number of forums I frequent, and worded as such that it will come up high in related google searches. One thing I will not tolerate is lying.

Ditto.
I have ordered copilot, and will let people know what its like after Ive used it for a while, as Im aware many are in the same boat as I am.
I will also ask people whom posted at the start of the thread to edit their posts, when they feel certain a patch is not forthcoming. Reason being, those posts come up early in google results, and if GPS midlands have lied to us all, especially me in person (grrr), then I feel people should be aware of the potential dishonesty.
There is of course, time for them to release a patch and that they are doing it all along, but for me I have given up after being messed about.

Ditto. I will write a complaint to trading standards if the patch (or an explanation / firm date) is not on the GPSmidlands website by noon Monday. We can also probably complain to OFCOM as it's a premium rate phone line service and there appears to be nobody answering the phone. I might even email BBC Watchdog and give GPS Midlands some national TV advertising they don't want.
bartmanekul wrote:

Please don't buy from GPS Midlands, even if you have to pay £10 extra from someone else.
I urge all AAS Forum members to boycot the company until the patch is released or Trading Standards have dealt with our complaints.
Hahhaha, you gotta be having a laugh. 😉
I cant buy from them anyway - seeing as I cant get through on the phone, and they ignore my emails.
Besides of which, they dont sell what I want.
Interestingly, theres no address, only a PO box I notice.
I got it from some online company, its due tomorrow. GlobalPositioningSystems.co.uk, yeah I probably could have got it cheaper somewhere else, but not much. And I want to be able to return it (within 14 days) if it turns out to be crap.
That phone system is totally unreasonable. I dont know if anyone else had it, but it always seemed you were the first in the queue, but never got anywhere.
Besides, all the stuff there is expensive compared to other retailers. I was prepared to buy from them however (I needed another mount, if they ever got one in that would fit my phone), even if it was above normal price.
If there is no patch by Monday, please can you give me details of what/who and what you say to them as I will do also. OFCOM etc are generally useless unless many complain.
I wouldnt buy from anyone whos dishonest, no matter how much less the price. Theres time for them to prove me wrong yet, but I have been messed about a bit and thus been forced to buy copilot.
Lets all email them with some sort of message? Surely its not that hard to make a small patch - i would have thought tomtom would have released it by now and charged for it and copyrighted it
Contact who? If your on about tomtom, no point. Not only are they woefully unhelpful, they have been getting loads of requests about it.
Not a lot of help I know but I found a reference to this from someone who managed to get a more detailed answer from them today.
This is from another forum, I hope posting this link to another forum doesn't breach any of this forums rules. Apologies if it does.............
I was told a similar thing, except that I was told it was running on the corperate clients, not being trialed. And I was told that last week.
I want to beleive its true, but I was also told that the fix was 'dead easy' and he couldnt see why others hadnt done it.
Again, Id beleive them if it wasnt for that phoneline.
Why would a company have a sales line that charges 10p per min and have a dodgy hold system?
It doesnt warn you about the high cost either.
I havent accused them of anything, nor have I called them names, all I have done so far is threatened to go to various organisations if a patch doesnt appear. This would be because I have been lied to personally, which rankles tbh.
I still hope its real, but the longer it goes on with that phone line being operative, at that cost with the dodgy 'your first in the queue', it points to being something rather underhand.
And considering the interest that they are very aware of, I dont see why they just dont update the webpage.
Another thing which raises the brows. Considering no-one else on the internet seems to have heard of this patch that was released beforehand, how exactly did tomtom get wind of it?
More News on the website guys check it out!!!!😮

Nokia N95 Patch for use with TomTom Software Symbian V3
Hi
We are not normally moved to subscribe to any forum as it is our opinion to leave this sort of deposit to the likes of our customer base.
Firstly it needs to be brought to your attention that we derive not one penny from any incoming call as this part of the call is taken by the NUMBER PROVIDER and not us. By the way the call may cost the caller 10p per minute but who do you think charges to initiate the call. Not rocket science but people need to examine the facts before making reckless statements
Secondly we have asked for no renumeration for either the original patch or the subsequent releases as and when they are available.
Thirdly we need no additional web exposure for our core business as this is our obviously pda & gps repairs. This should become apparent to any web 'surfer' whom conducts a search using google and such like with terms such as 'PDA Repairs' or 'GPS Repairs'.
You will see we do not offer a repair service for the Nokia N95 or similar so such exposure using the patch would prove absolutely worthless to us as a company.
So lets get down to the 'nitty gritty'.....
We originally developed a patch for OUR corporate base as many of our clients had adopted the N95 without consulting us with a view to using TomTom software to mention just one. Whilst the N95 is a superb piece of consumer hardware it falls way short of corporate structure & application.
Anyone who has dealt with us will know that we go the 'extra mile' for our customers and in many cases do not seek financial reward unless the sale involves hardware. Given our background in front and back end gps software development the patch was quite easy to compile but the problem revolved around the navigation software itself. We are amazed that no-one else has managed to achieve this given the amount of knowledge contained within the forum. To be blunt we are not allowed to alter any software both at surface or source code level. As a member of VERO we would not even attempt to distribute such a solution ...even a free one.
We suggest all you angry guys out there should direct your venom at the software author not us. The patch was initially designed for our own use hence we are asking for NO REWARD.
Everyone knows that the N95 is possibly the most popular mobile handset on the planet at the moment and an alarming amount of people have purchased this mobile on contract on the assumption that TomTom Symbian V3 would simply 'drop on' the device and work with the integral receiver.
We would ask people not to contact us by either email or phone and simply keep an eye on the website as we expect the link to go 'live' very shortly. The patch has been out in the field for 5 days so far.

thank you Simon for clearing things up...your silence was killing everyone !
Yes, excellent way to insult any future customers you might have had here.
Excellent replay,my best congratulations.....
No else comment
Nice reply Simon....and as I've said previously in the thread.....your efforts are applauded and appreciated.
I still find it amazing that this patch is being provided by a 3rd party and not by either Nokia or TomTom themselves !!
I eagerly await the patch.....I'm similar in that I got the N95 for use with TomTom and without the need to be carrying around anything other than the phone for it to work.
I have Route66.....which is a poor imitation of decent satnav software....so this patch cant come fast enough.
And as for all those in the forum that bad-mouthed GPS Midlands........shame on you. I hope you are as quick with your apologies as you were with your insults ?
Simon.....bring it on !!!
While you could be telling the truth about the number, everything I look at on google about 0871 one numbers brings back revenue gathering schemes. So if your not getting money from it, surely a number which doesnt charge 10p per min would be better? Anyways, thats up to you, it just puzzles me. And you have to admit, the 3 times I rang (at different times) always getting the message 'your the first person in the queue' yet not managing to connect to anyone is a bit coincidencial.
Your statement does bring me renewed hope, even if it is too late for me (Ive already bought copilot -arriving today). And I still hope its going to happen.
Its just lots of little things, like that guy appearing on the forum and saying he had it. I can certainly appriciate his reasons, in fact Id do the same.
Unfortunatly, it just made it look bad, this sort of thing happens all the time, and more often than not is someone pulling peoples chain.
Anyways, I hope this all ends well, with a patch that works, and thus people are happy and GPSmidlands gets good press from it all. Im still undecided as Im just so confused as to the purpose of that telephone system.
BTW - would be a good idea to get rid of the text 'Nokia N95 Patch to Use Internal Receiver with TomTom Software
Available Now !!!' on the home page on your website.
Thanks Simon - just what I needed. Going from shortly to very shortly tells me that the product will be released sometime next week🙄
