Just checked NSU for N86 v20 update but it didn't show! It says the current firmware is still v11. Very weird! It's still available FOTA.
I'm on Euro 1 product code. Damian Dinning said v20 was definetely going to be released via NSU this week. Does anyone else have the same problem?
Not available for me as well either (NAM N86). Should be here soon-
battery indicator issue:
Took my off the charger, didn't restart it once, using it for 2 full days, had 5 bars left, and BAM! "Battery low, please recharge" message, after few mins phone dead!
Cheers,
Miki

Me too 😊 possible reason: to many times charged by connecting to computer to load music or pictures.
I saw the picture on the link. It's clear, but I have no more knowledge about it.

I'm just glad we are getting an update at all
but when will it be ?
Tomorrow i think i will spend some time with my swiss Karabiner K31 out in the forrest on some deers...
so the time will go faster until the update comes.
@DamianDinning
The issue that is still not corrected in this firmware: opening the kickstand doesn't perform its function(previously chosen in the settings) if the keypad is locked. It's absurd, imagine having to first unlock the keypad every time you want to open the camera shutter to take a picture.

what application have you selected to be launched from the kickstand?
Yesterday my N86 didn't manage to load the battery for hours.
As I opened the Energy Profiler I saw that the phone continuously consumes over 1 Watt !! After I opened and closed the camera application it returned to a normal level. See Image attached. before loading I took a few pictures and closed the cam with the slider - but in that case sometimes the power consumption did not decrease.
So camera bug still there.... :frown:

It doesn't matter, it's the same with every application. For example, I tried it with photos, contacts, x-plore and calendar. When you try to open the kickstand while the phone is locked it behaves as with any other pressed button, it says "press 'unlock' to activate keypad"

Damian, you said NSU v20 update for N86 would be available w/c Monday 5th October. It's been a full week and there is no update on my NSU. It says my the current firmware is still v11. I have a Euro 1 product code.
Have there been problems rolling out v20 through NSU? Can you please advise asap?
Kind regards.

My NAM unit has yet to receive the update as well. I've tried to stay positive regarding the update, but it seems as though these FW updates are business as usual for Nokia.
I'm thankful that my N86 doesn't have any of the issues many are describing, or I would really be upset-
Damn the paused music playback bug! The phone started playing music at the most inappropriate moment yesterday due to that! Will have to remember never to leave the phone with music paused till this is solved.
djmuzi wrote:Me too 😊 possible reason: to many times charged by connecting to computer to load music or pictures.
Possible yes, but not in my case. To avoid this exact scenario you mentioned, I haven't hooked up my phone via cable, so battery wasn't "topped up". I used BT connection instead. Didn't use Garmin at all. I did not restart my phone. Still ended up with the same result, so there is an obvious issue between real strength and what battery indicator shows, for some reason indicator is kind of "stuck", or battery "refresh" doesn't seem to work correct.
I have switched my phone off, charged it whole night, removed charger, switched phone on....
Regarding RAM memory:
When I start my phone I have 64.7MB free, but by the end of the day I have about 50-55MB free, and I cannot get back to that "initial" value (over 60MB) without another restart. Tried to "memory clear" with Jbak Taskman and also MemoryUp utility, but I'm always about 50-55MB. Is this normal, or there's some memory leak?
Cheers,
Miki

Big apologies for the delay, we are working on the issue. I won't go into the details but suffice to say that we had high confidence the first round of NSU updates would be available last week. Unfortunately we were unable to meet this in the end as you now know. I have my fingers crossed later this week for 1st round variant updates but am unable to guarantee it.
If yours is not in this 1st round we'll bring it as quickly as we can, but the process does take time. I appreciate this can be frustrating but is way more complicated than it sounds on the surface. If you have already tried FOTA and it says the update is not available the chances are that your variant code will not be available via NSU this week either. The exact schedule for other variants other than those released already via FOTA I am unable to comment further at this stage.
Please be assured we are doing everything we can to get the updates to you as quickly as possible.

Thanks for the update.
When I check to see if there is an OTA update, instead of saying "Update Not Available," it now says "Server Not Responding." Does this have anything to do with the unforeseen issues?
(I'm using a NAM unit if it makes any difference)

Many thanks for the update Damian, very much appreciated.
v20 is available for me via FOTA (Euro 1) but i'd much prefer to update via NSU. Hopefully it will be available though NSU later this week. Fingers crossed!
Because of the delay does it mean there will be more changes to come in the FW update?
Seriously thinking about sending my N86 back as unfit for purpose.
Text messaging is almost unusable in low signal areas like my home - often get the message is in use error then I cant save it to drafts to send later - have to delete and start again from scratch whilst hanging out the window. 😞
Just outside of my 14 days too with the manufacturer.
sorry, network not manufacturer.
I'm also on Euro 1 but no FOTA available.
@Damian,
also a big thank you for the update about the update.
My question is, is it possible that nokia fixes now the bugs which are already in this firmware, and bring out a nearly bugfree firmware ?
Or do we, who havent had the chance for an update, get the same as already has been delivered via FOTA ?
Just an idea and interresting for me , because im not really sure if i should update or not....
Unregistered wrote:Because of the delay does it mean there will be more changes to come in the FW update?
It is the same as the FOTA version.
I stress this is from my own personal experience, sometimes it can help to reset to the factory settings, reformat all memories, run the update via NSU then reset to factory settings again. Overkill and very inconvenient I know. You really shouldn't have to go to this extreme but if you have tried everything else this can sometimes help.
Beware because all your settings and applications and files will be lost through this approach and content/bundled apps which were available out of the box will not be there, only the standard package applications will be there. For example in some UK variants iPlayer would have been bundled as standard but after the reset it will be lost, although that particular app can be easily downloaded again.
If you do go to this extreme only restore content and not settings. This is to ensure if you do for some reason have a corrupt setting that it is not put back. I appreciate this adds to the inconvenience.
I am not encouraging you to do this but as said, in my personal experience it can help to ensure everything is running at optimium. These are computers at the end of the day and are extremely complex.

I can't comment on specific issues but I have to say that whilst I appreciate there are reports of some issues on this forum the vast majority of people (e.g. well over 95%) are experiencing trouble free usage with the N86 8MP and therefore I would still recommend you run the update when it is available, there are no issues that I am aware of which would prevent me from making this recommendation. My own N86 8MP is running the update and I am experiencing no issues which are preventing me from enjoying its usage.
@DamianDinning
Of course the phone is usable, but it would be really nice to see those small bugs we reported fixed in the next firmware 😊
@ Damian
I've just received my brand new N86 from the Nokia online store. I can only unbox it on oct, 30 (My birthday).
I follow this thread since some days now and, when I see all the bugs remaining or new in V20, I'm asking me if I have to update my device (should be V10 or V11 out of the box) immediately after unboxing, or wait for a much more stable and bug free version and stay with V10 or V11 until a V21 or V30 is released...
And about your last post, #175, do you mean that not everybody is experiencing the same issues ??? Strange...

I think it's just that people don't pay attention so much, so it doesn't bother them 😊 I believe majority of s60 users don't even know how to install additional programs...but that's only my opinion.
Many of the bugs we reported were confirmed by a few users, so they aren't just individual problems.
Hello all, just stumbled across this forum on the net and felt I had to give my opinion! Not being funny, but why is Nokia bragging about this new firmware release? Quite frankly they should be highly embarrased about it!! Why? Because all these bugs on the N86 should have been fixed before it was released for sale. We're not talking about the odd crash here, the original N86 firmware was full of bugs! From the fm transmitter not working to the crashing when booting up or the battery life issues. To top it all of mine also has a loose slider as well. Nokia can't seriously expect the N86 owner to believe that they did not know about these bugs before it was sold? Even if they did have no idea of these issues then it simply means Nokia have not fully tested the phone to make sure it was suitable for sale before selling it. Think about it guys, either they did not fully test the phone or they did and then didn't bother to fix the problems with it.
If I bought a car and the brakes didn't work and the maufacturer said to me "oh don't worry we're bringing out a new set of brakes for the car in four months time and then the brakes will work" I wouldn't be overjoyed at that reaction, i'd be like "the brakes should have worked in the first place!!" The same principle applies with the N86.
I am actually very annoyed and even more so dissappointed with Nokia over my N86. My last four phones have been Nokia, but after this one I will not be buying another Nokia again. Yes the new firmware has made the phone better, but there are still problems remaining and in any case, fixing the N86 now is too late. I don't want it bug free now, I wanted it bug free in june when I first bought the thing!
Sorry to rant on guys, just needed to get that off my chest. Thank you.
Well, the world ain't perfect and neither is anything else homo sapiens design and build. But I gotta tell you I think the N86 is a fantastic piece of kit and I'm delighted with mine. It's my first Nokia since my 7110 way back in... well, it was a long time ago.. and I've been on a mixture of SE & Windows Mobile since then and never really happy with any of them (especially in the imaging department). The N86 hits the buttons for me. Damian, thank you.
