To be exact:
GPMapa jest cyfrową mapą Polski przeznaczoną do nawigacji w urządzeniach GARMIN GPS. Produkt jest wynikiem wspłpracy firmy Imagis S.A., lidera w produkcji map cyfrowych oraz firmy Excel Systemy Nawigacyjne Sp.J. przedstawiciela światowego lidera systemw nawigacji satelitarnej Garmin.
which translates in short:
GPMap is done by Imagis S.A. in cooperation with Excel Systemy Nawigacyjne Sp.J. which is representative of Garmin in Poland.
So, I was right, you're wrong. It IS more accurate (which i saw by my own eyes).

Calm down kiddo, You might be right, you might be wrong.
I wasnt aware that Garmin got other third parties to source their mapping from.
On Garmins help files, or in the 'about' section, it lists Navteq maps as the map provider.
This includes the Europe maps I have (Poland obviously). So I think I can be forgiven for thinking what I did.
It is of course possible that the Garmin repersentive in Poland gets it from Navteq, or even Teleatlas. 😉
Has anyone found a way to search in "any city" like on Garmin?
Sometimes there are errors in the map data, or you are unsure of in which city a certain road is located.
In those cases, you need to be able to search "any city" for the streetname, or you are stuck.

But Im quite calm ;-P. And nope, Imagis is using their own maps done by polish cartographers (so noone has more perfect maps but US Military ;-P ).

PS. Erm, and maybe Russian ;-P

Huff. Which makes it annoying then that the UK doesn't do something similar. Youd think that with the detailed OS maps someone would do road maps, to sell to Garmin and the like.

There is a solution... Someone should buy any UK cartographic company and make a business 😉. Maybe you? 😉 And if so, gimme some profit ;-D
But seriously, polish ppl HAVE TO do it coz our road 'system' is so poor that have to be changed year by year so noone foreign could be fast enough with updates 😃. We have strange country here, believe me 😃

Ha! If I had the money, Id start my own satnav company up. But alas, I maybe jobless soon, so thats kind of out the window.
Im amazed at the mistakes ALL satnav makers make, it seems all of them have fundamental flaws in some areas.
Yep but nokia does it worst right now. They are using about fifty years old maps for the capitals of european countries for some parts (zegrzynski channel is about half long that it should be so people could think its crossible but its not so its major flaw) and in addition after a year you cannot use even such crap coz it just expired. I would buy a license for unlimited time like harmins but in this case nokia can go to hell with their maps

Hear! Hear! We seriously need an update now, so we get the chance to find serious bugs before we need it on summer vacation. And that 'any city' search function is where Garmin beats McGuider hands down.
i honestly think that for now garmin beats all up in precision and overall usability. I will try to post this evening new thread with comparison for country i live in. If we ll be lucky, more people will follow this and we will have a reasonable opinion on this. Most important usage of gps is at terrain you dont know i think and if so, dont try to depend on nokia in poland, believe me. Till eve.
I used Garmin and Sygic the other day, I must say for precision, and accuracy Sygic was better.
Both apps where smooth but in Garmin I felt I was little behind then I really was.
Both used in/near central London
I've switched back to Garmin, I simply do not trust McGuider at this point.
Sure it's pretty, but it seems unfinished to me.
The other day I was driving the same (130 km) route 2 times, so I tried using Garmin for the first trip and McGuider for the second one.
At one point in the journey there was a roundabout, and while both programs gave the correct route to take, McGuider actually gave the wrong instructions.
McGuider told me to take the 1st exit in the roundabout, when it actually was the second one I should take - it even showed the correct route, but the instructions where wrong.
This is the kind of thing that "scares" me, especially in complex intersections the instructions need to be clear and precise, and I shouldn't have to worry about whether I am taking the right exit or not. The only reason I took the right one, was because I'd already travelled the route using Garmin 😡
For now I simply do not trust McGuider enough to use it as my primary satnav, and so far the Navteq maps Garmin uses have been more up-to-date than the Teleatlas one McGuide uses.
Sure, Garmins UI is a bit more convoluted, but it includes the "search any city" function as well as TMC and the maps and routing so far has been flawless.
Is it just me that's puzzled why Sygic have two representatives in here, yet provide no info, updates, support or anything? I really can't figure out why they came here to begin with. Are they the real deal, or just someone having a bit of fun with us? Sorry for being stupid...
In my experience working with a number of commercial businesses and organisations, both global and national, it has been a widely held belief that you should never give your customers the opportunity to talk openly, without control, to you or each other, which is why I was surprised we had reps from Sygic here.
It wouldn't surprise me if they had been told to cease their activity here.
No, theres a few reasons why I beleive they were genuine (and the IP address points to that also).
It may have been by choice, because with discussions like this its always the bad things that come out most, because people want it fixed.
End result is that it just looks like bad publicity.
While Im sympathetic to that, I am not sympathetic to the fact I still dont have a solution to my copy I purchased. The postcode issue is a very big one for me, and effectively renders it useless.
So Im over 40 out of pocket until they produce this update.
They would be much better off contacting active members of the forum and getting them to trial it, rather than opening trials to every man and his dog. I imagine they got such mixed feedback it wasnt much use.
Some of the members on here are obviously expirenced with satnav packages, and those are the sort of people you should get feedback from.
I would also like to do a Q and A with Sygic.

Hi Peter321,
can you give me the route and the roundabout coordinates? I will look at it.
Thanks

This is really not this case.
It is just free time problem.
Thanks hryzec, I shall do.
As for a free time problem, I really do think it would be worth while for a company such as sygic (and all other satnav makers tbh) to allow some time for a dedicated spokesperson to contribute to forums.
A forum with so many users, including many whom use the software, is possibly the richest source of information and PR available. And its all free.
Just throwing ideas in the pot.

I think McGuider wanted me to take the small one-way connecting road between road 1 & 2
I have look at this. In new my version it computes the road a little differently, but roundabouts are ok already. Second exit is everywhere.
BTW this could be with my new map release 2008.04.
Let's just hope that these don't slow them down as much as some.
Would still like to make sure it only alerts "on route"
Wow! The lack of response here really shows the deminished interest in the McGuider product. Looks to me like Sygic missed the oppertunity by not providing working updates and now people have gone elsewhere for GPS soft? Hope I am wrong...
Hi:
I have the american version of the program because this summer I am going there on holidays.
I am planning the routes there and have found a great problem. One of my routes will be going from las vegas to yosemite national park. When I try to plan this toute it takes 5 minutes to calculate it and then it takes me from las vegas to Los Angeles and then to Yosemite. If I plan an alternative route it sends me by another route of almost 1000 km.
thisroute is not the one that should be planned and i would like to knoe if there is any fix to this bug.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
I am thinking of buying Mcguider. Lots of positive comments on here (as well as a few bugs which need sorting).
I have read through all 16 pages of this thread and have been impressed by the feedback and help given by 'sonym' who works for Sygic. I have a major concern which I hope Sonym will be able to answer.
Where are updates to the Mcguider software available? I do not expect to get free map updates but I do think it is reasonable that you offer free updates to the Mcguider software as bugs are fixed. I have searched the Sygic and Mcguider websites but can see no way of downloading updates.
Does this mean if I buy a copy from Expansys and it is quite old and full of bugs, that I am stuck with it?
Thank you for your help in answering this question. I look forward to hopefully buying your software soon.
Unfortunatly there does not appear to be any system for updates.
While they have kindly given me updates, without making them public its very possible someone could be stuck with the postcode issue and not be able to solve it.
Im hoping they have some sort of system in line, but I havent heard anything about it.

Is their any changelog for these updates? When I was using it their was a hideous amount of bugs I had when I used a copy but the main annoyance was stuff like it not using the AGPS resulting in woefully slow initial lock times ( unless you fire up the nokia GPS Data program in the background ) that and when you take the wrong turn it takes about 400 yeard to realise this and then it trys to replot you by telling you TURN RIGHT when your passing the exit it's referring to ( that's a tom-tom annoyance to but common sence would tell it to start looking x hundred meters up the road rather than close as possible )
Afraid not. Even in the most recent version that problem you mentioned exists.
And also the very odd u turn command I get at the bottom of my hill. I checked the tele atlas maps on their website, and its nothing to do with them.
Just feels like its not matured enough yet to be a proper solution. Harsh, but true.
