scottbufc wrote:Hi, got my N95 yesterday finding it very good but just a couple of problems im having if you can help out.

When at home I am using my wireless router for the internet on my N95, problem is everytime I use it my N95 keeps asking me to enter my wireless key, I find this very annoying how can I stop this?

Also when I am using maps do I pay every time I plan a route?

Thanks Scott

This is my experience:-

1. I created an access point called WLAN HOME, scanned for my home WiFi router, then entered the key in the WPA security setting. (PM me if you want detailed info on how to set up a similar AP on your N95)

2. I configure all N95 apps which require a data connection to use Always Ask so that I can choose Wi-Fi if it's available, or GPRS/3G when I am not in Wi-fi range

When a data connection is required, the N95 appears to automatically scan for Wi-Fi routers in range, before displaying a list of available connections. If the N95 cannot detect a router which is defined in one of your Access Points (e.g. WLAN HOME), the access point in question is hidden from the list.

If WLAN HOME access point is listed and I select it I am not prompted for a key

If WLAN HOME AP is not displayed, and I then initiate a manual scan for new WiFi routers, WLAN HOME is added back into the list of available connections, but for some reason it temporarily forgets the WPA key. This is (IMHO) a bug which I hope Nokia will fix in the next Firmware release.

Anyhow, if I cannot see WLAN HOME access point in the list after an automatic scan, I cancel the connection request because I know I will be prompted for the WPA key.

After a few seconds, repeat the application function which requires a data connection and usually the WLAN HOME AP is automatically listed on the 2nd or 3rd attempt, and I am not prompted for a key.

Hope this helps.

For what i had underestand, there are many access point that don't work so good with the phone 😞
I've a belkin one, and works good, but i've an Atlantis and it always disconnect...

My Netgear DG router connectes about 50% of the time with the N95 but worked 100% with my previous phone (N80). Once connected though, my N95 works ok and does not drop the connection.

I assume Nokia will need to do more work on Wi-Fi router compatibility for the next FW release.

Hi dear!!!
I really admire yor effort of helping out like us people... keep it up man..

Well my query is that how can i play the heavy swf file in my N95? like 3mb or so... it is playing the file upto 400kb files i have tried by not the big one...
And one more thing that it can't play the flash 8 files, it saying flash8 not supported.

Your help is always obliged.

Thanks a ton

Hi there !

Another newbie here.

Thanx for answering such a multitude of questions :icon14: ! I'm learning so much just from reading this and now know where to turn to when I finally get my hands on the N95 and have the misfortune to run into a glitch 😉 !

My question, perhaps futile to most but rather important to me, is it possible to copy a calendar appointment (meeting) to a new date (I don't mean move it from one date to another, but actually copy the exact entry to another date) on this phone ?

I have never understood why I can't do this with the N73 (or did I miss something ??) and very much hope it can be done on the N95.

Thanx in advance for your trouble,
Silver

Hi, I have posted this on the Nokia Asia Pacific Forum but no one seems to be able to assist.

This is what i have noticed since upgrading to v11 firmware :

1. When I use Nokia Suite to backup contents of phone, it keeps saying "error with back up of multimedia messages". Strange thing is I don't even have any messages stored in any of the message folders (inbox/outbox etc). With the V10 firmware, I don't remember having any such problems.

2. When i go into the Gallery folder and open images...and then perform a slide show to music and photos with "zoom and pan activated"; I am getting jerking of music and sometimes even the zooming action of photos jerks for first 5-10 sec. This never happenened before with v10 firmware. I am thinking it may be due to a memory bank/buffer issue. Has anyone also experienced this and if so, does anyone know how to fix this problem ?

I am even thinking maybe it's the memory card not being fast enough as it has to read photo and music data. If this is the case, then maybe going to a Sandisk ultra II speed micro SD card might help. I will report back if it resolves this problem.

Also, not sure if it is related or not, but in the "images and video" menu where u get small icons of photos, some icons stay pixelated whilst others have funny colours. This does not happen all the time.

I had got to a point where i was planning on going back to firmware v10....if it was possible; but upon reading on the improvements that v11 firmware has over v10, i thought i better try and stay with v11. The problems stated above are only minor and i can live with it..... just annoying that's all.

Now this next finding is not related to the firmware (as it happened with v10 and now v11) , but when i connect to my WLAN to surf the web it seems to take a while to download web pages. I have a 10mbps router and the notebook seems to download data alot quicker off this router than my N95.

On the N95, speed feels like 56K dial up. I don't know if this is normal, so just thought i'd ask. I know, with so much technology crammed into the phone; and with WLAN capability being relatively new to mobile phones; that we shouldn't expect too much, but you never know unless you ask....right ? 😊

On a final note, i also tried to transfer some Symbian based games (such as Bubbleshooter v1.0 and IQGame v1.2) onto the phone but it would not install as it stated incompatibility issues..... has anyone also experienced this or know what we is or is not compatible symbian wise ?

Thanks in advance for any help and solutions offered.

Hello everyone,

I am currently trying GPS with Nokia maps - just wondering someone can help:

How do you navigate without voice guidance - I can not seem to get the N95 to navigate at all - do you actually have to purchase voice guidance to navigate. This is what I did to try to navigate:

- Route planning
- Define start point and destination point
- Show route
- show on map (which show me the blue planned route) - I assumed that when start navigate the N95 will show on screen the routing instructions (i.e. show symbol of turns and distance remain before the turn - I accept that there will be no voice). But when I select start navigate - N95 asked me to accept term and condition and then asked me to purchase upgrade - I have the option to purchase or cancel. If I select cancel it then return to map view but no longer show the blue route plan. Therefore, 1. how do I get the N95 to navigate with turn-by-turn without voice? 2. do you have to purchase voice guidance to get voice and turn-by-turn instructions? 3. When you take the wrong turn does the N95 automatically re-calculate route or do I have to purchase voice guidance to get automatic re-calculate?

My apology for asking too many questions - any help is appreciated - many thanks

Jepp, to get any kind of navigation (voice and/or turn-by-turn) you'll have to buy guidance. The voice will then be an option which you do not pay extra for.

In other words; the navigation service which you have to pay for is the "turn-by-turn" guidance and voice will then be included (if you choose to download it) 🙄

Yes superswede pretty much explained it, I just wanted to add, your only option would be to choose "start tracking" and keep your position along the line!😊 Follow the yellow brick road.

Thank you Superwede and Rooster80 for your informative advice - I will try "Start Tracking" first then perhaps purchase voice guidance in due course. Thank you again really appreciated.

Is it possible to connect the N95 to your laptop over wifi, and then use the N95 as a router of sorts, so that your laptop can connect to the internet over your phone?

I know that the N95 can be used as a modem over bluetooth with PC Suite, but that doesn't help us Mac or UNIX users.

And if not over WIFI, does anyone have experience using the N95 as a modem for a UNIX laptop?

Can someone who's got one of these tell me if it supports Imap Idle? I found a PDF document about the Series 60 OS that lists it as a supported feature, so I'm curious.

It'd be handy for push email; there's a school of thought that suggests Imap Idle is the best approach for push...

good day!

i'm here in manila and was trying to connect to gps for 3 days now but the message that i am getting is always "gps signal unavailable". i dont know if the problem lies on the phone or on gps provider. i've been connected once or twice to gps but after that, i cannot get connected anymore.

please help me. i bought the nokia n95 just last week and still under the 60 days trial of navfone pro. that's why i dont understand why this gps is always unavailable.

thanks in advance.

bobbble wrote:Is there any way not to hear any sound when taking photos ?

You can either use the Silent profile, or use any profile and turn the Warning Sounds off by editing the profile, this will also stop the startup sound, but also the battery low warnings etc.

It won't be the GPS provider as there's only one, so if it's down then it won't work for anyone in the world.

I tried to put the phone in silent and to turn the warning tones off and shutter sound is still there when taking photos/video clips. Does anyone else have this problem?

Setting Silent mode does kill the shutter sound, for me.

Firmware 11.0.026 Euro 1

Good Luck!😊

thanks hounddog for the reply. if that's the case then why am i wasnt able to navigate these past few days?

please help, newbee here. thanks.

are there any n95 users who have the same problem that i do? or is it just me?

Charmagne,

In order to maximize chance of getting your gps to work on the N95, you need to make sure u are outdoors; hopefully not near too many tall buildings. Secondly you need to open the slider so the receiver has best chance of receiving gps signals from satellites. After this, you need to run your gps either by running "maps" or GPS Data by going to Menu> tools > GPS data.

Once you have run the Map or GPS data, u need to let the phone sit still and sync with at least 3 satellites. This may take up to 10 mins. You can check status by either clicking on Position (if in GPS data program) and then click option > Satellite status. This will tell u how many satellites your N95 can see. For each number and bar; it represents Satellite ID and whether it is fully synced yet. So you might get numbers 9, 6 , 4 with bars next to it. This means it has found satellites number 9,6 and four...out of many. Now the bars are initially blank......and only when they are filled black has your phone fully synced with that satellite and you need at least three satellites like that for your gps to be fully operational for navigation.

In the Maps menu, you can do all of above by clicking on options > View > satellite info.

Again, time is most critical and try and go outdoor in an open area.... tilting the screen of your phone (remember slider must always remain in open position) at 45 degrees to horizon may also help if the N95 has trouble finding satellites.

If all of the above doesnt help and you have left phone for 30mins to search for satellites, then it's likely the phone's faulty and you need to bring phone back to a Nokia Center for repair/replacement.

pls i have been trying to connect wifi with eap-leap settings, but i cant find it, i can only eap-sim, eap-peap,etc, but no eap-leap, i am on the latest firmware, or does n95 not support eap-leap, thank u

ian_w wrote:I have an n95 on Orange. After I take a photo, I'm presented with an annoying pop-up menu with the options "Upload to my album", "Blog" and "Send to a friend". I'm guessing this is some ruse to encourage more data transfer () by getting people to go on-line whenever they take photos. Is there any way to disable this pop-up? I've tried turning off the option to view a photo after it's taken but this makes no difference.

Perhaps the most annoying aspect of this is that the pop-up menu takes a couple of seconds to appear after taking the photo, so if I'm trying to take several, it's quite fiddly to begin each one. Any ideas please??

Yes, I was struggling with this as well. After lots of fiddling around, I found the solution:
This menu starts showing, to my opinion, after the first time you try to use one of those internet 'photo albums' or 'blogs'. So what I did is I opened the photo application and there I went to settings and disabled the service. From that point, the menu did not show anymore. You can always re-sign to the service by pressing 'accetp' to the 'terms and conditions' again.

So you use the third party navigation software NAVFONE, do not you?
But why do you expect it will work with built-in GPS receiver???
No way, up until now there is no any third party navigation software which supports the N95 built-in receiver (People if I'm wrong, please correct me).
So, in order to use the GPS navigation on your N95, you have to use the native MAPS application and buy the Navigation option from Nokia.

thanks topned and ralphlauren for your reply.

to: topned...i have tried your options and it really worked, guess the phone is not fully configured yet. but i have made to navigate using navfone as well.

to: ralphlauren...what else gps navigator do you suggest? there are limited gps reciever who can navigate in asia esp. manila maps.

I really can not make any suggestion because I do not aware about the situation in Asia, sorry.

Just one advise, if you wish to use non-native Nokia Maps application, it would be possible together with "any" Bluetooth GPS receiver.
So you can choose your own navigation software.

I have Navicore on my N95 and with original Navicore (Hollux slim) BT receiver it works absolutely lovely.

I know that the Navicore and TomTom is working in direction to make the patch which will support the integrated N95 GPS.

Hello, I have an N95 and I am trying to upgrade the firmware but keep receiving a "phone recovery' error. I checked the product code on the phone and it is 0534841 which is for the Sand phone but I have a Plum phone
(0536062). What can I do...:con?

Haven't read the full thread som forgive me if I've missed something here but why are u using Navfone instead of the already integrated "Nokia Maps" which works well with the internal GPS and has maps for Phillipines as well?

Hi I'm new to this but can you tell me if once you have downloaded the voices for the N95 sat nav are their any charges for each time you use it?
